Hi, can anyone tell me if the RNS-E MK2 will retro fit a 2006 A4 3.0 tdi S line Quattro Cab?
I have what I guess to be the MK1 fitted (OEM) with the 2012 map disc at present & the phone (bluetooth)
voice dialing works really well from the steering wheel button & I don't want to compromise this function.
There's a ebay seller who has a couple of MK2's for sale & he says it will retro fit ok as a few
people have bought these & changed from MK1 to MK2.
but he's a little unsure about the voice dialling function. I asked at my local dealer they said
that they didn't think the MK2 would be compatible with my car but suggested I asked the
question here. I've tried searching but I can't seem to find an answer. I like the fact that the MK2
will take 32GB sd cards & have a better screen etc. I just need to be sure before committing £500
plus & finding out it won't work.

The RNS-E swap should not affect the bluetooth dialling - voice control of the RNS-E itself would be an issue, but that is a separate feature. So as long as the RNS-E you get has already had its faceplate swapped to an A4 one or you are going to swap that yourself then should be all that's required...

Yes you can fit a mk2 to a B6/7 chassis, but requires fascia swap unless fitted already.

The voice dialling wont be affected as rns doesnt control this aspect if its just the sds on the bt module.

But, as you're swapping to a mk2 unit, why not consider upgrading to the full sds voice system for av, phone, radio etc for improved functionality, I can offer this supply/fit service.

The a4 mk2's on ebay are not sds compatible if you wanted to upgrade to sds full.

Give me a shout as I've done numerous a4's with mk2's & doing some tomorrow as it happens.

I also warrant my units for a longer period, ebay/paypal only cover you for 45 days, after that some of my clients who bought of ebay had trouble with units & the seller didnt help whatsoever or had disappeared, so be weary of future issues that could cost you allot ot fix or replace.

I replaced the factory fitted Mk1 RNS-e in my Cab with a Mk2 RNS-e from an Audi A3.

It was a bit of a pain swapping the faceplate over, once I got the unit correctly coded with VCDS it now works perfectly with the factory bluetooth.

Hey Geebo, I noticed NHN posted up there just as I was about to say give him a shout.

He did mine, exactly what you want, and it's ace. Highly recommended.. He changed the Mk2 face for me and got all the bits etc. I just provided some cups of tea and an SD card for my music (oh yeah and some money :whistle2:)

i think i may send you some Scottish Blend tea Nigel. You would enjoy that. Better still get your self up here and do some retrofit work and we will give you some to take home with you, lol. :) x

Hi NHN I've sent you a PM I think as I can't see it in the sent folder??
I hope you received it ok.

Ironically, english tea is made in india isnt it lol.

Yes I have 2 scot members to quote for, so you may see me very soon, but they're at the tip so may need to fly lol.

Hi ya,

How much are you to swap the Mk1 for the Mk2 ?

Do you do an exchange basis ?

Thanks

Hi Jasons,
I was wondering if you could post some pictures, or if you know of anyone who has the guide of swapping the faceplate.
i was considering buying the A3 Mk2 instead of going for the Seat Exeo version from the Polish guy on ebay (apparently the only one I know who sells them).
O know everyone says it is a pain changing it, but with a guide maybe it would be easier for me.
Thanks.

Welcome to the site.

We can supply/fit the mk2 for you & swap faceplates on site, location dependent :)

Oh, cool, I live in the Cambridgeshire area.
What are the prices for supply and fit, from the single din to double din?
And would it be less expensive if I buy the rnse myself? like the a3 mk2 and if you could provide the faceplate?

Thanks.

Hi everyone im Chris and have just joined up.

ive been reading a bit about retro-fitting the new style rns-e's to B7 A4's, hopefully someone could help -

Im looking to buy one of the 2010 versions either from a Seat Exeo or would a A3 one fit with a different face plate?

basically how much would it cost and how easy is it to fit and code or how much extra would that cost me to get it done properly?

I would be grateful for any advice and im hoping to keep it to around the £400 mark or is that too optimistic

chris

Hi Chris, welcome. Originally I thought you meant the very latest ones which fit in the new golf etc.. they're great but won't fit our cars sadly. A 2010 model is the RNS-E Mk2.

NHN did me a great RNS-E Mk2 though (same as the early ones, but with face-lifted controls and other bits). They're a nice OEM addition.

Yep either will fit. A3 one will need a faceplate swap like you say. Seat direct fit just no audi logo/lettering on screen border.

400 quid a little optimistic for mk2 methinks :)

Hi Rich, are they the upgraded led lit ones with the sdhc's and the shiny screen surround? am I right in thinking that its the same one as the exeo's then? do you have any pics mate?

yea a seat one would be fine im not bothered about the lettering on the screen, we know what car we're driving lol. im guessing you can code them to pop a audi start up screen ?

cheers phil, I have messaged him but no reply as yet. has anyone tried the memory card/usb readers that plug into the autochanger port on the back? ive found one connects2 on nexxia. just wondered if it works cause that will save a bit of cash lol

Autochanger port will only give you track numbers and 1-6 'playlists' converted to pseudo CD numbers. So basically you never see actual track names as its kind of a fudge that it works. The AMI add-on RNS-E mk2 with iPod is such a joy after 3 years of the old style CD changer/iPod Audi combo. The MP3 ones are the same principle.

Don't think the MK 2 has ever been fitted OEM to the A4 (I may be wrong NHN?). The MK 2 Nigel fitted to mine was an A3 version & he changed the facia to suit. One thing for sure is that NhN knows far more than any ebay seller about these units.
What I can say is that the SDS (speech dialogue system) is fantastic (if you have the multi function wheel)
Have a look at this

It hasn't.

That's what I have also, but you can also convert the TT version but not the (much rarer) R8 version as the control layout is different.

Hi,

Nigel also did mine - quite a alot of fiddling etc to dismantle the unit to swap the fascias over - tiny screws etc.. Glad Nigel did it an I just supplied the tea!

ah cool, Nigel sounds spot on. if you there Nigel, I would love some more info on prices etc cheers
