hi guys...new to the site, hoping someone can shed sum light on my problem.i have an audi a3 1.8t quattro engine code ajq 180bhp, i was just wondering what other engine codes would be compatable for a direct replacement...due to finding it hard to get an ajq engine, it needs to be a 180bhp..any help would b appreciated
Thanks

Taken from wikipedia: AJQ, APP, ARY, ATC, AUQ, AWP, BEK, BNU (North America only), BBU (UK)
I guess AUQ would be easiest to find and i'm sure its a traverse engine found on MK4 Golfs also, but what happpened to yours?

Oil light came on so i looked in to it and the oil pump had gone so changed that and it still came on and it was ticking and i let it run for about 5 min and the car just cut out and it wouldnt start now so my m8 who is mecanic said it sounds like it has seized, but has'nt yet looked at it...thank you for your reply

get it looked into a little deeper instead of saying, it wont start need a new engine, the 180bhp engine is the a3Q is also in the TT 180bhp, call around salvage yards but a new engine isnt cheap...get another opinion first

for the most part all 20v 1.8t engines are the same... you can fit a 20v engine from almost any transverse VAG car and it will work the same as now... there are a few caveats though... main differences are rods, cam chain tensioner (VVT/Non VVT), large port/small port head and SAI...

Cars to consider are Mk4 Golfs, Mk3 Ibizas, Mk1 Leons, Skoda Octavias, and 8L A/S3's... there is a link to a spec sheet in the FAQ's sticky that has engine codes etc in there that can help... most people opt for AGU engine as a replacement as they come with 20mm rods as std, are non VVT and are widely available from A3's and Golfs... Mk3 Ibiza Cupra's use 20mm rods and small port heads (again non VVT), later AUM engines use 19mm rods and are VVT...

Hi lads i have just found a auq engine 180 bhp out of a seat leol cuppra with every thing and 6 spped box £475 with 102000 on and the one in my car has 165000 is that a good buy for one of these thanks for the feedback

why are you buying a new engine when your not 100% of the cause!?

Should say that you do not have to have to find an engine with the same power output rating for it to work... you could in essence drop in as BAM 225 engine from an S3 but it will still only put out 180hp as the output is mapping/turbo related...

The AUQ engine has 19mm rods and VVT... your AJQ engine has 20mm rods (IIRC) and is non VVT.... technically the bottom end of the AUQ engine is inferior to your AJQ but in reality will work fine...

If i ever had to replace the whole engine in my TQS i would be looking at upgrading at the same time and putting a 225 bhp S3/TT unit in it.... at least you get something to put a smile on your face and not just your old car back the way it was when you've had to shell out a load of cash

Putting the engine in by itself won't give you the power dude... tbh its cheaper to source an engine like an AGU or something from any other car than an S3 or TT as for some reason they seem to think this warrants a premium on the price when in actual fact there is not a lot different mechanically...

There is a little bit of work involved going from a K03 turbo'd engine to a K04 turbo'd engine too so make sure you get as many ancillaries as possible..

Audi dealer should be able to get one I think... never seen that before... has the tensioner arm broken? its plastic and most likely damaged or even the cause of the failure in the first place...
