Everybody wants launch control at the moment, especially given Bills EPIC thread/launch control Christmas Carol with Mark, PT, Lupo and Holly so today Pierre, Prawn and I had a play about with the very basic soft cut launch control which was mapped onto Pierres car a couple of years back.

It was all fun and games until someone lost an eye (Prawn...), literally got shot in the leg by a stone haha!

I  launch control! Now can somebody just sort it out for ME3 so everyone can enjoy it?

Great thing about soft launch is that anyone can have it. Stock/mod'd makes no difference only thing that might go pop is the clutch . Its a good option for those you can't ALS

I tried the soft mapping in mine and it just bogged down... I suspect a little playing with the launch RPM would have helped but I don't have the cushion that wheel spin provides with no boost lol...

How do you activate it? Is it a case of holding X revs and it will enable or what?

AWD is a better solution when talking about a first gear launch yes. Within the modification range that a soft cut limiter would be applicable to I am not sure there is much in it to be fair. Mylo for instance does 13.5 second 1/4's on road tires with a fwd Leon. Don't know what a 250bhp S3 does a 1/4 in?

The launch control seems to help much more when you have changed into second because the car has been on song since the moment you pulled away. It works better than this when you have decent tires. Frenchmans A3 is on a loose surface there with 205 45 17's which cost about three pence a corner.

I would imagine on my car with my 215 T1R's it would actually hook up a lot better once the initial break of traction had been overcome. It certainly had far more traction and was much quicker than this when Prawn has 18" FK452's on it.

I can't wait to get mine mapped in, I will post a factual update then. I am talking theoretically at the moment in dream land haha :p

This one is mapped in so that with the ESP disabled and clutch depressed it limits.

This one might be, guess it's the R-tech version.

There is also a softlaunch, which works by simply using a 2nd rev limit built into the me7 already. By using the original rev limiter as your launch rpm and the 2 limiter as your redline limiter you create a Launch control limiter, activated by the car being below a set speed normally 1.25mph such that once above that speed the 2nd limiter takes over. Very simple to map in as you use exisiting maps in the ecu to do this, unlike the ALS version which needs new coding and routines patched in specific to the ECU.

All fun though

In car with Prawn driving, looks slow as **** to be fair. haha

I cant wait to have this, it will be the best fun ever, BUT mine has a DMF :( hmm FWD swap and SMF maybe :)

better comparison for launch is the 60foot times if looking at drag times..
the rest of the 1/4 is power to weight based....

I'm afraid it isn't dude :moa:

As Above, softlaunch 2nd rev limit below a certain road speed, not linked to ESP or clutch in any way.

It is however, oddly linked to the CTS, in that the second rev limit remains in place at 4500rpm until the CTS reads over 80 degrees coolant temp, making it impossible to thrash the car from cold :)

pretty sure setting 2 maps to -48 will negate this issue.

Wouldn't oil temp be better? Since that's way more important than coolant temp? Sure, they're closely linked with an oil/water exchanger but still...

From what I can gather, evos are limited boost-wise until a certain oil temp is met.

Its controlled by the logic within the map dude... the soft coded launch is a kind of 'fudge' of existing functionality within the map... its not really designed to be a launch control at all... manipulating soft cut and hard cut rev limits
