Hello im new here.

Basically i bought an Audi A4 B7 Cab about a week back, all running good no problems etc, until yesterday when a new Key Fob arrived. So i took it apart etc etc changed the key over and was trying to change the chip over but i couldnt so i just put i back together.

I went out to unlock the car and the alarms and hazards were going off, key fob wasnt working atall tried re coding it and everything, had the AA out last night he couldnt do anything he recommended i take it to a Audi Dealership to get the key re coded. My friend who is a Mechanic mentioned something about if the battery is out of the fob for a over a certain time it loses its code.

I know Audi will sting me for this tomorrow but i could really use some advice if possible, im sure someone must of had this problem or heard about it.

Thanks Jason.

ive read the manual but it mentiosn about a 2nd key i dont have one :(.... i cant start the car so i cant try that method it just starts then cuts off within 2 seconds i will go try the first method but i think i have done it.

Just tried that method of the ignition lock and unlock and it doesnt work. alarm just went off and hazards are on really quick.

Have to say I would take it to Audi regardless if you can get it to start, and have them remove the missing key from the immobiliser.

do you know what kind of prices audi charge for labour. i really dont want to pay a ton just for them to plug it in re code the key fob. but i guess ill have to.

I guess your looking at Around £90 an hour labor rate but could be higher, depending where you live.

I think B5NUT is right in that youre best off taking it to audi to completely recode as you dont know who else has a key.I paid £200 last year to have a new key and new recode, but that was for a B8

If it cuts out after few seconds then your little ********, as either you've broken the immo chip capsule or got keys round wrong way, so either find correct part of fob that does start car or needs trailing/towing to dealer ideally as thats immo related & needs put on vas to fix ideally & I dont advise using alternative coders.

Just remember immo & remote locking are 2 completely different systems, not linked at all, so immo needs doing aswell as remote, which audi would do anyway at same time.

found of the problem. My master key had become defective, and because i dont have a spare i have to wait up to 5 days for a new key and fob to be made and sent from germany. depressing times

Whats the forecast cost ?

If it was working fine before dismantling, then imho the immo chip was damaged whilst doing, if its a megamos 48 then the glass capsule is very delicate & can get broken very easily.

It could possibly be that then. oh well its done now and my Credit card will soon know about it.

those glass capsules are a pig to do, when i redid my passat keys i cut the key from round the capsule rather than lever it out
