How does a s3 with 300/330bhp+ compare to e46 m3

How does a s3 with 300/330bhp compare to e46 m3 on acceleration ? From 60mph to 100mph kind of thing,just as I seen one tonight on the bypass and was wondering how I would fair against one but he wasn't playing

my s3 has a print out of 328 bhp and 467nm of torque would that be worrying a m3,keeping with it or getting left by the m3,if any one has came up against one how did you fair ?

In straight line terms, I think you'd absolutely smash it!

the s54 motor in the e46 m3 is claimed to be 346bhp stock, but in truth most are only 300-315. They're also incredibly heavy at about 1600kg in full road trim.

When you get to the bends I'd start worrying, but in a straight line you'd kill it no trouble.

Yeah they do open up at crazy speeds and I have seen videos of them at 170+,I thought the s3 was about the same weight as a m3 but prawn says the m3 is slight heavier

The m3's are well over 200kg heavier than a s3 and about 350kg heavier than a a3 so tbh power ot weight not much in it, id say the s3 though for show .

I honestly never thought there was much weight difference between the m3 and s3 as the s3 is around 1.45 tons I believe so pretty heavy it's self

I had a play with an m3, and at stage 1 I didn't do bad at all. Pretty much even up to 60.

I know the m3 is quick but up to 100+ I've never been passed by one.obviously past 100 id expect it to pass me but I wouldnt know because the max speed limit is 70mph.....

Yeah the m3 really does come into its own at high speed from what I have seen on YouTube and such like but I'm more interested in acceleration rather than top end speed.

whats a ko3s ? is it a hybrid ko3 turbo ??

An M3 is still an animal before 100mph, 0-60 about 5secs and 0-100 in about 11.5 secs, I don't think you'd of "shown up" any E46 M3 with just a K03s, sorry.

An 8p S3 stage 1 running 300bhp would have difficulties

I was getting recorded times of 4.8 0-60 with only 260bhp but launching at 5k revs and we obviously have Quattro. But I'm still not sure I'd embarrass an E46 or E36 with the 305bhp I have now. Maybe edge it but not embarrass it.

I agree, an S3 8L running 320+bhp would keep up with one, but...

Sound ,I need to sharpen up my gear changes as well as in that video I reckon I could maybe shave the best part of a second of it with faster shifts

The e46 m3 smg I drove to Austria was absolutely brutal in every gear. Especially if you launch from stand still, the smg box doesn't mess up a single shift where a manual m3 might have a n00b behind the wheel.

They're very well balanced cars and very quick out of the box

Not been in an s3 to compare though, although I'd quite like an s3 with 300bhp

Not a truer word said. I wouldnt be able to get anywhere near the full potential out of a car like that. Id felt out of my depth. Where as the 4wd would help me feel a bit more in control and I'd be able to enjoy the car more.

Plus when m3s go wrong they're properly expensive

I used to have an E46 M3 and it is faster than a stage 1 S3 with downpipe and remap.

My S3 has never pushed more than 260 bhp so I can't really tell for 300+ S3's.

And for the haters lol, M3's aren't slow, they handle great, and they drive well.

Alot of people use the e46 m3 as a performance benchmark due them not being slow and great handling that's why I was want to know how I would stand against one,and I think it's a great looking car aswell best looking m3 apart from the e30

Agreed. They are awesome motor cars.

The benchmark of greatness then and the benchmark of greatness now.

O-60, most s3's will live with one, after that....most will have to yield.

The straight six engine remains a magnificent feat of engineering and married with the best chassis that BMW has ever designed...the e46 is the definitive everymans supercar. Any critic either hasn't driven one, has no taste, or cannot drive.

I have been lucky enough to own both the E46 M3 and the E60 M5 both of which are very rapid cars, both are no slouch 0-60 or 0-100.
If you just look at the numbers there probably isn't much in it 0.5-1 second here or there, I am not sure there would be much embarrassing going on with a 300bhp S3 but depending on the drivers it would be close in my opinion.
