Hey all, I've noticed people putting "full VCDS" as a mod on the sigs, what is it and what do you gain? I thought it was just a program that you can check error codes and erase them to reset lights on the dash? Is there anything more to it?

Nope, just scans all error codes. I have VCDS Lite and don't get all of the benefits but paying £200 or whatever the full deal costs isn't something I want to spend.

It's supposed to mean you have a fully licensed copy of the software. Which means you can do long and short coding, as well as scan for and clear fault codes.

However the software is free, it's the lead that needs to be licensed, I believe

Well worth the money if you are thinking of doing mods to your car the resale value is high too

Mine has paid for itself 3 times over

So if you had the full deal would you be able to write things such as egr valve out or is that a different side of things?

No egr is ecu side and can't be don't with vcds

You could do coding of cruise control, anti hi jack etc

It is a diagnostic tool for vag cars old/new.

It will allow scanning for error codes, clearing of such, recoding cars for extra features, installation of new modules, recode clusters for immo(if skc present), log loads of different readings for values to determine where a fault may lay, reset service indicators, clear airbag lights, numerous list of things, its certainly not just a scan tool, far from tbh, well worth the cost & thats said as a user not a seller.

Nope, just scans all error codes.

Thats far from the truth, as above.

The best way to think of VCDS is it’s pretty much the same as the dealers VAS / ODIS diagnostic machine, so modules can be coded to act differently, logs done and DTC’c cleared.

(VCDS cannot do a few things the dealers machine can do… but it can also do some things theirs cannot do as well)

For most people they are better off finding someone local with VCDS and giving them ‘a drink’ for their help, however if you like to play around with retro fits etc then they are WELL WORTH the small investment they cost.
