a3 1.8t agu k03 modifications

hey people recently got a metallic blue 1.8t a3 agu engine k03 turbo and im wondering my best route to go down for around 220bhp? ive heard of the 007p forge valve miltek exhaust but then ive seen bypassing things and all sort's of stuff any information would be good on what to get etc and price's thanks

As you have an AGU, you currently have a ko3 turbo mate, which will not ever make more than 195bhp I'm afraid

You could map it as it is now, totally stock, and see 185-190bhp, or you could add every bolt on mod going, and make 190-195bhp.

To get beyond this figure, you'll need a ko3S turbo from a later facelift car, leon cupra, 180TT, Later Golf, loads of things to get a turbo from.

Add a ko3s, along with a 3'' Downpipe and decat, and a front mount intercooler, and you'll be good for 220-230bhp depending on where you get it mapped.

The downpipe is absolutely essential I'm afraid, as the stock downpipe is SO small it's unreal, a massive restriction. Downpipes and decats that mate to your stock exhaust are only £100 on ebay.

The standard single side mount intercooler is also terrible, hence the need for the FMIC. Search ebay for mk4 golf FMIC and you'll find a turbo revs kit for under £200 which is perfectly suited to the ko3S.

As well as these things, you'll need a decent airfilter, be that a panel filter or a cone, and a working Diverter valve, be that a new stock one, or a forge 007/008.

A custom map then from somewhere like R-tech for an AGU, and you'll be very, very happy indeed.

really mate i was told i could get 220bhp with a stage 2 on a k03 turbo :(
 
I'm afraid not mate, the absolute limits of the ko3 are around 190bhp, with some rare cases reaching 195bhp, but generally, the rest of the hardware is capable of more than the turbo, hence why you can't add much to it with bolt on mods beyond a st1.

To give you an idea of what the hardware can do, a totally stock later car with almost exactly the same hardware, but a k03S turbo can reach 210bhp from just a st1 map.

a st2 ko3S car will make you very happy though, they go well on the road, and often make 250lbft or more of torque
 
my friends gold made just under 200 bhp with a tip, 007, air filter and a full exhaust on a stage one map people seem to be getting upto 220 odd mate and then a bit more on the k03s's
 
With my k03s I had dp, exhaust, tip and induction with a stage 1+ map I got 223bhp

I added a front mount, forge. 008 dv and stage 2 map and got it to 242bhp

I then added a stage 2 water meth kit and retuned it for everyday driving and got it to now 264bhp

The k03s over the k03 makes a difference

I added a front mount, forge. 008 dv and stage 2 map and got it to 242bhp

I then added a stage 2 water meth kit and retuned it for everyday driving and got it to now 264bhp

The k03s over the k03 makes a difference

i may just keep my eye out for a k03s then is it a straight turbo off and k03s turbo on?
 
I think the only thing that changes is the tip as the compressor side is slightly bigger so you will need a bigger tip. But might as well go for a aftermarket one like forge or whatever. I don't really know what brands you guys get there. Here its easy its forge or samco

Take prawns word for it on the limits of the k03 as I don't know anyone else that has done as much work on their A3 as he has.

If you have a lot of time and want some inspiration go thru his thread and you will see everything you need to know about a A3.

ok thanks mate and my friends just spoke to his mate at rtech remaps and they max at 200bhp so his correct so k03s it is :D
 
You don't need a bigger TIP for a K03s, the OD of the inlet is the same size.

Although for performance I'd get something silicone in there, SFS make a k03 k03s 70mm silicone unit.

The B5 TIP is for the K04 sadly atm, maybe something for the future

Prawn is currently being a **** over Facebook about how he is always right and that I am wrong, so I feel the need to tell you there is a 1mm difference between the outlet sizes.

Various forums and websites say that the O ring in the cast turbo intake pipe will squeeze up enough for it to fit, Prawn however says it won't and that a K03 TIP will not fit on K03s but a K03s TIP will fit on a K03. He is almost always right.

Either way, if you don't put a silicone TIP on it for £50 then you're mental. Silicone TIP will work with both no issues, so get one ordered.

I never said they wern't interchangeable, I simply stated that they were different. Which they are. it's minimal, but different.

They ask you what engine code you have because the DV and TIP outlets are reversed from AGU to AUM/AUQ, and highly differeny again on the AYP ibiza engines, but Jardo the freaking expert didn't know that, because he didn't find it on google....

haha you guys are funny. any of you got any videos or links to videos of a3s with k03s 0-60 or 0-100mph videos running over 200bhp?

That's not fair, I had gone to bed so had no chance to defend my honor.

Ignore the video's Prawn posted; his turbo had a hole in it so large that if you placed a newspaper on the bulkhead you could read it through the hot side. And as such isn't a true representation of K03S POWAH.





Not exactly the fastest thing in the world ever, but if you've never had a fast car before then you'll think a stage 2 1.8t is the most epic car known to man.

I don't know I had a 300+bph VR and I still love the k03s power. Its easy to use, reliable and gives a awsome punch when needed
 
They do make a nice quick car, a half decent k03s set-up will come in at juuussstt the right side of 200bhp/ton with a really nice power delivery, which is plenty to have a good laugh with in a FWD car. Much more and an LSD starts becoming a necessity rather than a bonus.

Or stick the engine in an older lighter car. ;) In theory my Scirocco with just a map on the standard k03 would have a better power/weight ratio than either of the A3's posted up there, as well as lower (faster accelerating) gearing because of the smaller wheels. Must get it weighed to see what it actually comes in at though, because I could be talking out of my ****! (I'm assuming an A3's ~1180kg and 240bhp and the Scirocco's ~920kg and 190bhp.)

(I must admit, I think a k03s on the A3 might be a little cheaper and easier...)
 
Stock a3 is about 1240kg Robin, so only the very finest ko3s road cars will break 200/ton. Still make for very enjoyable cars though :)

It is possible, but it isn't reasonable.

It has been done, but it costs far more than a K04 would. 250bhp will require a meth kit, ported manifold, actuator, a top notch turbo as well as everything being perfect, not to mention there is only one person to have ever got these figures from a K03s; Niki at R Tech. Best bet is to stick to 230bhp on a K03s and if you want 250bhp+ then K04 is the safest and cheapest route. A K04 with a downpipe and decent filter will get you 250bhp much safr and easier than a K03s.

You will need to take the turbo off to fit the actuator to get any more than 240bhp anyway, given that you will be doing 90% of the work anyway might as well fit a K04.

My money is that you won't bother though, I suspect you would get a K03s on and a decent map and it will be more than enough.

Why do you want 250bhp? Any past experience with cars which makes you think you need that figure? Or just pub numbers? My old A3 did 0 to 100 in 12.5 seconds with 230bhp ish, which is pretty quick by any standard; why would you want more for a daily driver?

I am only going as far as I can with a K03s out of mindless pride and ignorance. I could have fitted a K04 and got far more power and a much better graph, if it is pure figures you want then don't spend a penny on the K03 setup and get saving for bigger things :)

jardo has it summed up pretty well. 250bhp HAS been seen from a ko3S, but in truth, it's not realistic at all.

Many people will say they want 250-260bhp, but then be blown away by a ride in a 220bhp ko3S car. the delivery from them is VERY punchy, which makes them feel quicker than they are perhaps, but they're by no means slow, and you'll definitely be smiling :)
