Gas Struts

My gas struts are very weak on the boot of my Sportback and need replacing.

I'm considering going for an aftermarket strut from these guys.....

Audi A3 2003-2008 Tailgate/Boot Gas Strut - 8P4827552B

....has anyone done this or am I better paying the extra and going with the OEM parts?

Stick with OEM - at least you know the the quality will be good.

These come with a 2 year warranty and they tell me they are more powerful, but I'm not entirely sure if that is a good thing or not?

Bear in mind that in freezing weather with ice on the boot, the lid will be much heavier and it will appear that the struts are weaker than normal.

I thought this last week but back to normal now !

OEM are about £25 each plus VAT I think.

No mine are definitely on the way out. With no extra load on the boot I have to help it into the upright position.

I might give the stealer a call and see what we're talking ££££ wise.

Guys, today got leaking right rear gas strut, oil is gone, no presure, shall i claim as warranty, when car is 1 year old only. Thanks for help

Most certainly ! Take it back to them asap.
