I've been searching around today but can't really find a definite answer. I bought the car 1.8T A3 a few days ago and it had the ABS light on, and the guy said it just needed a new ABS sensor. Bought one of those but haven't had time to fit it yet due to work, but I also haven't really used the car much.

Now the (i) light is on on the dash and beeps three times. I was moving the car from the road to around the back of my house to fit the sensor and give it a check over while I managed to free up some time while it was light outside (didn't last long and is now pitch black outside), but I can't figure out exactly what the problem is. I assume the brake pads are very low which has caused a slight drop in fluid (now topped up), so I bought some replacements and will hopefully get some time tomorrow to fit them. Is there anything else I should look for as the (i) warning light is pretty bad from my searches.

Briefly the ABS light (and traction control) light went out but that made the ABS kick in at very low speeds - hate ABS with a passion as it just increases stopping distances....tempted to rip it out if it is the pump but an MOT tester might get excitable about that. Never had a car with ABS before and don't really want one either.

Hoping it's not the ABS pump and just needs pads/ABS sensor. VCDS Lite is en-route from eBay so I won't know if there are anymore errors as I seriously don't want to drive it particularly as it's minus 1 degree outside and it's gonna get colder.

it'll be a faulty sensor, VCDS will hopefully tell you which and off you go.

Cool mate, thanks. I was told it was the NS rear. I have the sensor staring at me next to my laptop. First thing tomorrow :) Hoping the VCDS thing will turn up soon...been waiting 5 working days already - damn Xmas post.
