Jardo's 'Journey to quattro' - My Story...

the A3 vs S3 debate is soooooooooooo 2010 Adam.

New argument, complete with bold claim:

My A3 is faster than your RS4 :racer:

100 - 200 (62 mph - 124 mph) in 7.8 seconds ! this was done from 62 mph (not rolling from 50) in 4th gear !

What does an RS4 avant weigh? 1.7 tons?

What happens if Prawns is quicker

badger 5, yeah, that's pretty much the point I'm trying to make, I just didn't make it very well. Arguing over who's got the best flow as if it shows for sure who's got the best power is silly, especially when you're talking about engines that have internal differences that stop them being directly comparable even if everything else was accurate. I was just trying to point out that you would expect less air-flow from a high compression car for the same power from a lower compression one.

who times this sh1t

Still, sounds reasonably brisk :)

I'd imagine them to be fairly similar on the road really, I was just trying to start an argument, it's what all the cool kids do these days.

When I had a blast against Dane, I was at 300bhp vs his 466, and he just had the legs on me, but not by a lot. Now mine's much faster than it was I'd expect the result to be the other way round.

In power:weight terms, I think ours are without about 3/4bhp/ton of each other :)

It bats boths ways... ohhh errrr. :p

some cars will make more power than their suggested injested airflow would suggest... Think wmi runners, which run more timing... more bang for the buck..
then there are the not so well ones, which do the opposite

1.7 tons with a driver, but we already agreed that weight means **** all once speed is up

you also need to remember danes quoted power output was NOT accurate as a dyno run of his appeared on audisrs not too long ago, i think it only made 410 bhp, so he most likley had a boost leak or similar

remember, my car's capable of 0-60 in under 4 seconds and i've had nearly 190 out of her (ran out of road), it was still pulling, so 200 on the speedo is possible IMO

would be interesting though, but power generally outweighs better power to weight ratios at higher speeds (aerial atom is a brilliant example here)

not that quick then..
its is big and heavy tho is'nt it

Can we please take all talk of lesser cars to their respective sub forums, this is my build thread for my car and if you want to talk about how quick Prawns car is then go clog up his thread.

ALL of you! :p

ps - i did not see any a3's in that list......... specially jardos

The terminal velocity of my **** is quicker than most of the cars on that list, let alone your luggage loading dog walker wagon.

.. I'm interested to know if you have any aero on the car and if not how stable was it at 150/160170/180

nah, car is standard body wise (if that is what you mean), big difference between 150 and 180, but the car felt fine to be honest, very planted, would feel better now as it's had a full suspension change with bushes etc (have a look in my progress thread)

You missed a car out bud!

Common problem, it's so ****ing rapid it's difficult to find it even when it's written down.

What a shame it does'nt stop Or go round corners.

Stops and goes around corners perfectly well for a road car Al, entirely capable at taking anything thrown at it within responsible levels. :)

Anyway grumpy badger, when are you inviting me over for a cuppa? Or am I just going to have to turn up and insist again?

I try and read these build threads for ideas.
I love a good willy waving argument but... on a build thread?

Jardo...

I agree, everybody ****** off and let my thread get back to being my thread about my car and what's on it. :)

I think the app is called Dynolicious, but I've never used it. This Torque app is ****** good, the amount of quick fault codes and issues I've diagnosed with it is unreal.

If you want to borrow the bluetooth adapter to try an app just ping me your address and I'll send the adapter to you so that you can try it.

Update, I fitted my boost gauge tonight -

Not the tidiest of installs like my old pillar pod, but practical and not too distasteful. If something pops up which will tidy it away then I'll make it neater, but for now it is more than good enough :)

I like having a mechanical gauge, so much better than an electric screen on liquid or whatever.

all i will say on the matter is Jardos car is fooking quick, ive driven bike engined westy (when i use to build them for a living) Evos, GTRs and scoobys, the think is you know they are quick, but Jardos feels faster because it picks up better than the others, Prawns must break yer neck and im hoping to find out from the pass seat over christmas :)

LOL at that poor lad in the twin turbo red top Corsa we smashed the other night.

Pretty sure if we pulled over we could have robed his woman too...

To right, he didnt have a chance the best bit when he pulled away at the lights i bet he thought ha ive won this one, it took him forever to catch us up at the next set of lights pmpl

That's the advantage of FWD, you can't pull away quickly even if you want to. So when you do release man boost upon the already celebrating boy racer it makes it even more devastating when you give them a 4 car length head start and then immediately consume their will to live the second you hit third gear.

Bearing in mind this is me with +/-240bhp, you can only imagine what I was like with some of my older and much more powerful Saabs at the tender age of 17.

Your car will annihilate my car when it is done, I won't even stand a chance. Not even with 250bhp. :) I love your car.

The gauge doesn't look all that bad to be honest chap, though the base is a tad unsightly at least the "hump" in the dash partially hides it.

Any plans after the mapping session? LSD or will it be pretty much done?

its like baiting badgers but its baiting boy racers lol, its a game im looking forward to taking part in lol

Thank you mate, that means a lot to me dude :)

Thanks. The pod was £3 in the Halfords sale bin, can't complain for that.

I would love a diff, having driven Prawns and knowing the way it pulls it really transforms them. But for a road car that's daily driven I don't know if it is justifiable.

Phil dropped me off a K03s the other day, so depending how I get on we may hybrid that for a little more power. But otherwise nope, my goal and what I have always wanted is a 250bhp K03s :)

Quaife ATBs are fine for daily drivers? Or you mean the cost of it?

Iv also heard that the ATBs are pretty good on everyday driving, my only concern is cvs? I don't know how Jardo drives but I tend to race evevy thing I see willing, and with normal diff you spin tyres and maybe brake a inner cv or standard engine mounts. With a diff you run a lot more of a higher risk to those parts and gearbox? That's just my way of seeing it?

My train of thought is with Miggz.

115k and 10 years and my car is on its OG cv joints going by the history, since Prawn fitted his diff he has done three gearboxes and quite a few CV joints

It would be nice to have the hook up out of corners, and it won't cost me anything to fit the diff because my dad can do it. It is just the xtra strain I think it puts on transmission parts.

I think the money you would have spent on the diff just do a good set of tyres?

I'm so focused on setting my car up for track that I forgot I do track days maybe 4 times a year *facepalm*

So tonight ill put my interior back lol
