Hi All, I acquired a facelift 1.8T for the princely sum of £250 a few days back

It's got the usual rust along the door bottoms, don't think I'll even try for a warranty claim on that in all honesty, it is bad enough that the pins that the door trims clip on to are missing on the end of the drivers door skin though! Can anyone say for sure it's rusting in from out or out from inside the door? To me it looks like the trims are rubbing the paint off the doors

Now, this is the shocker - never seen anything like it and I've welded up my MK2 golf enough times!

Do I have any hope or should I just get the welder out?

Have a random picture too

welder time

Thats why it was 250 quid

Welder it is then. Can't work out why it's rusted there, perhaps someone spilt some brake fluid

Thanks for the helpful input. It's quite lucky to still have an engine considering it was purchased as a donor car for my MK2.

It was the shocker line that warranted a mention of the price,no offence like

I'd bet its early in life accident damage repair thats caused it. In which case Audi warrenty won't cover it

Only time ive ever seen that much rot was bad repairs

Fair enough - My shock was at the location of the rust rather than the fact it had any. I've owned a classic Mini and own a MK2 golf, so am no stranger to it.

Think you may be right there, there's a shed load more seam sealer on that side.

Would I have half a chance with bubbling paint in the roof gutters? It's not burst through the paint yet so I don't think they could fob me off with the not reporting it soon enough line.

Apologies as my mistake.

I had mine done with just bubbling paint,as long as the paint thickness is not different and within 12 years you may get work done.

Worth a try then, that would leave me with the door and inner wing to worry about

Could someone give me a rough idea of value for it in rust free condition, full mot and 140k? I have an unfortunate habit of getting attached to cars and spending far more than they are worth on them!

I just bought my X reg for £1050 with a small finger sized rust spot on the door bottom. Everything else is mint. Just a squeak from the starter on start-up but I thought I got a bargain...I'd take a £250 one everyday though (ex mk2 escort and mini owner so same as you with being used to metal cancer ;))

If you purchased it as a donor car for the engine to go in your mk2 ,why are you worried about the rust/warranty?

MK2 escort is on my list of cars to own, I'll probably get a 5dr as I'd never afford a 3. I love seeing them giving brand new WRC subaru's a run for their money at Epynt

I drove it home and liked it, the interior is absolutely spotless. Plus I opened the bonnet and decided there was no hope in hell of it all fitting in my MK2!

Well if it does end up a donor car ill have your headlight's off ya mate :)

Only if you are volunteering to help me fit the engine in a MK2!?

Current plan is to take it for an MOT and see what's what, then decide it's future. Might sell it and use the money to rebuild an 8V GTI for my golf, hence asking about values. £1500 for a nice tidy example seems about right from what I can find
