Right, my oil light kept coming on when I go round a certain corner. So today I checked my oil level and it wasn't reading any oil on my dipstick. So as a quick fix I put in 4L. And now it's reading double over the maximum level. When I first checked it I hadn't driven the car for over 6 hours so all the oil was in the sump. My car is a 2000 S3, is it going to cause any damage to my car?

Yes, drain it so it is at the optimum level. Too much oil can blow through oil seals and worse. Imaging trying to sprint in 4ft of treacle and you get the idea except your S3 will be revolving (rpms) much faster than your legs could. Don't drive it at all.

Plus itll **** your cat up. Just crack the sump plug and drain some off.

As above really, drop some oil before it's driven anywhere.

For future reference it's approx. 1ltr from minimum to maximum on the dipstick

you do realise you can add some a bit at a time not dollup it all in at once?!?!?!
what were you thinking at the time??

A friend of mine did this to his '04 Mitsubishi Shogun and tried to drive it.

The car lasted about 100m before chunks of casting started to be blown out of the block.

"It's a big car, so it needs nearly 8ltrs of oil, right?" :banghead:

Google 'Hydrolock'.

reminds me of a 2CV when I was at a family members mot station some years back..

imagine the scenario... little old lady, Citroen 2Cv, rural area..
little lady tops up oil in the idea of "looking after her car"
then it wont start or turn over..
it gets recovered to the garage, where they are greeted by the oil filler cap being brimmed with oil. ie Completely filled the engine..

8 ltrs or more drained later...

lmao
