After killing a turbo , head, manifold and a good few other things on my first engine im a touch paranoid about fueling,
I know the ECU has all the toys in place to keep an eye on this but... the car show'd no signs of problems before it died before... so obviously mapping/ faulty components can trick it.
So... as alot of people i know run stand alone AFR gauges i thought i would get one... I went for the innovate MTX range as it was simple and compact to fit , I know people with this same gauge and have no problems but... They have lancia's, Astra's and Honda track cars.
My problem is the probe over heats ( i think this is the problem) and the gauge goes into fault code mode if i drive steady . I think it doesnt like that the Injectors turn off on over run because if i drive "a little enthusiasticly" there isnt a problem.
Is there a kit out there that has no problems with the above?
I concidered a liquid S3 gauge but that uses the probe and reading the ECU uses, i like the idea of a second opinion.
Any ideas peeps?

The probe is quite far away to be fair,
Its at the front of the decat section,
Is this the problem?
It worked fine in a simular position on my mk2 golf ... all be it with a completely diffrent engine set up

I have the said innovate mtx and an LC1 kit sat at home... but if they arent going to give a good reliable reading... need to swap them/ sell them

Look in Prawns thread, he has an AEM which is very nice.

You distribute AEM don't you Bill?

I've got a Stack wideband gauge going into my MK2 LINK. It has some nice features but it ain't cheap:sadlike:

I've recently installed an AEM Uego Wideband gauge in mine Paul, and I'm realy liking it.

No problems on a cruise down to cornwall and back, then 90 minutes each way to Bills and back, followed a week later by 2 hours to Nikis each way.

Not had any issues with the gauge in that time. On overrun it just displays --- then reinsates the reading the instant I touch the throttle.

Ia lso think it looks better than the innovate alternatives, with the black / red blending in nicely to the audi interior.

the further away from hot things the more sluggish it will be (defeating the purpose) and its internal heater will be working a lot to maintain its temp for measurement.. It should'nt overheat like yours says is, but its not in a good position either

Hang on a minute! Don't you have standard injectors with a hybrid turbo? :whistle2:

I have a 4bar reg and new fuel pump.
My worry is only if i push on more with breathing related mods i will go beyond whats doable ,

Bill,
I know the probe is a little too far down stream to be ideal.
But it was only easy place at the time. ( no excuse i know)
But i figured that some tuners put a lambda probe in the tail pipe of a car when tuning/ mapping it. It would be ok for me?
Bad thinking ?

AEM instructions state that it must be at least 300mm from the turbo or it'll get too hot. I think thy suggest something like 24'' from the turbo! So bottom of the downpipe probably isn't that bad.

I got innovate on mine. Working fine.

I beleive the problem aint with the product but with the location

given this post stems from the mtx faulting because of overheating? I would suggest its just faulty...

and yet VAG located the same probe a few inches from turbine outlet and they last for literally years

Well , rather randomly the gauge seems to be working ! Nothings changed or been reset... just a blast through a tank full of V power, Refilled and seems to be ok for the moment.
