Hi.
I'm thinking of upgrading the alarm on my A3 to something a bit more high tech.
Can anyone recommend any decent ones?

Ideally I'd like one with all the features such as remote start, jacking-up/towing sensors, alerts to the remote/mobile when it goes off.

Chris

Remote start of old that was used on 'new' cars involved removing the immobiliser or by removing the 'chip' in the key so as to trick the car that the key was in the ignition... This then leaves the car to open to the old 'Hotwire' process and would enable the car to be stollen. Not sure that this has now been overcome but may well have been...

You already have 'anti-jacking/towing' on your audi!

Alerts to remote would only work at a short distance and you'd normally hear the alarm anyway! Alerts to mobile would be cool though, there was alarms that could do that but required a phone in the car to send the alert, maybe they could be incorporated into the current alarm... And depending on the fact that they have network coverage too...

I heard of a guy with RS4 in Germany who replaced the car alarm siren with a train horn, you and the whole county would know if someone was tampering with the car.

This is one mod I am tempted with, should come in handy with London traffic.

Clifford black jack as it has glass break sensors, proximity alarm so if someone is looking in it up against the glass or walks to close it gives a warning chirp, then there is the fact that it has a key pad and if the correct code isnt entered and 3 points are triggered such as : door opening, ignition been put on and then the brake pedal been touched (which to face it these things are going to always happen with in 1 minute) the blue led starts flashing,it cuts the fuel to the pump, then the car will run out bringing it to a stop, from that point the alarm will sound, lights will flash, laser beams will burn anyone still inside...................................................all true apart from the last point.
which should mean even if they steal the car it should never be that far away then if you link that up with a tracker even more secure ( i hope anyway as this is what i have)

I modded my old Mk3 Mondeo alarm by hooking the pathetic [hidden in boot behind carpet] sounder to the car's OE twin air horns! I'd love to do the same to this one when the warranty runs out.

I didn't think all A3's had Interior &\or Tilt sensors ..Wasn't that dependent on the cars spec?

What's a good tracker looking at buying my first Audi soon and would rather be safe than sorry

That Clifford alarm sounds good, could always use a remap that requires u to start up although not sure how reliable

Think that the cars horn can be sounded with the alarm using VCDS?

Most theft stories on here are normally when it's hoisted onto a tow truck and the ignition is probably never even turned on, just stripped and sold for parts. Tracker sounds like your best bet!

I think you can enable a chirp (not sure it's the car horn) with VCDS when you lock and unlock.

I think non OEM car alarms are a waste of money these days, a tracker would be a better way to spend your money.

Looks like a tracker could be the way forward. Remote start would be nice for the winter months but I think a tracker is better value for money.

With the clifford alarm your aiding it not going very far in the first place as even if put on a truck if the angle is changed on the car without the igntion been on the alarm will be at least sounding if doing so,most cars are stolen by break ins and the keys been stolen

mine is set to chirp on lock, there's a VCDS option to set chirp on unlock, which I didn't want enabled! the noise comes from the alarm sounder and it's plenty loud enough for that purpose. :icon_thumright:
