Hi I am going to buy a ko4 doesn't matter weather it's used or new as I will refurb it if it needs it! I am just wondering what turbo I should get as there is a lot of different part numbers! I want one that will not have to be modded and will fit bex engine manifold and decat! By the way my car is a 2004 1.8t sline 190 bex engine code! Need advice as want to get one as soon as!

I might be wrong but a K04 wont fit as there off a Transverse engine layout.

I no it can be done on transverse as I've seen it with my own eyes but just don't no what ko4 to get as wnt to make sure flanges will bolt directly on and don't want to take it to apr as there will be no money left in the kitty! They do a kit for it but it costs nearly 2k no thanksss.. I would like to get a second hand turbo and send it to turbotechnics and get them to rebuild it into a hybrid! As I did when I had my starlet? They converted my td04 to a hybrid and was amazing! Just wna see if I can get one and get the right one

Andie,

K04's come in 3 forms..

k04-015
k04-001
k04-02x

the only turbo that is a direct fit to the longitudinal A4 is the k04-015. It's strictly not a full k04 and a similar spec to the k04-001 on the transverse engine. The true k04 is the k04-02x from the s3/tt this is good for around 280bhp. This isn't a direct fit to the a4 as it needs a custom exhaust manifold, dp, inlet tip etc etc. if you want a k04 then a hybrid k03 is the way to go. Limiting factor is the turbine housing. If you want a 240-250 bhp spec turbo then a k04-015 whether bought or your k03 hybrid'd is the best option.

Ive built a few A4 hybrids now for people, its far easier going with a hybrid than getting a stock k04 to fit.

Beach buggy thanks for your reply,

thats exactly what I wanted to no! This turbo that bolts straight on, is there a possibility of changing the internals and making it a full ko4 or is the housing different from the ko4-02x! Would be a touch if I could get one that bolts straight on and would save me bundles, but I'm not one for messing around with hybrids which are never going to achieve the power gains I am chasing! I did it with my starlet when I went from a ct9 to a ct9s then got bored almost instantly as didn't really provide me with the gains I wanted so then had to sell all the parts and buy all the td04 gear! I want to do it once and do it right this time! I am looking for 260 plus but I'm not chasing a particular number as its silly... What would you suggest is best for me?

Hi Andie,

260 is a very realistic and achievable figure from the turbo. A full K04 can be made, yes. I offer this spec in the K03 for the A3 at the moment which has a proven 282bhp and runs at 275bhp at the moment. I also have a 300bhp version being tested on Thursday which also would work in the A4 k03. The only slight issue with the A4 hybrid using the k04 internals is that in order to make good power the k04 compressor housing has to be used, which means a new modified TIp has to be used and also the intercooler pipes have to modified, but its a small price to play compared to fitting another turbo.

Right that sounds decent, just to clarify then so I can start to buy! I can buy a ko4-015 and get it fitted with the proper ko4 internals! Which I am going to get turbotechnics to do! But then I have to buy a custom tip and a slightly modified set of intercooler pipes! I am upgrading the 2 side mount intercoolers also so I have already budgeted for different pipes which is a plus!

last 2 question if you don't mind me using your extensive knowledge... Do you reckon the car will need a new fuel pump to accommodate the higher fuel intake needed and what are the best injectors for me to run at this power!

Don't bother with a k04-015 as they are identical housings to the k03s! You'll just be wasting your money when you hybrid it!

you'll need s3 / 225bhp TT injectors at 380cc . Stock pump should be ok . You'll also need a 3" maf.

Sounds good.. So just send my ko3 off to be made hybrid then! And then I can use all standard pipes and stuff as well! I will start to purchase now then! So do you have a shop then beach buggy could I send my turbo to you?

Just thinking though maybe I'm wrong isn't it a ko3s in the audi s line 190 anyway or can you have it modded further? Thanks

Because the A4 style K03s isn't as large as the transverse one. It won't do much more than 230, and that's with you wringing it's neck.

The designations do not really work on the longitudinal engine. The only way is to get a unit built to suit what output you require.

But if I got a ko3s why would I send it off?
Sorryif I'm being a dumb ****... Talk to me

So leme get this right because the turbo in the a4 is in affect a small version of the transverse layout i can send my ko3s off to a turbo place or beach buggy as I take it he can do these turbos and have a ko4 compressor housing attached and modified to suit in order for it to run bigger power? If this is the case where can I get this done ASAP as I want more power?

My guesstimation of what bb means is! That you can buy a k04-015 or make your k03s into one. By using vodoo and so forth!

Then no need to modify to fit a normal faceing engined k04 onto your transvers manifold.

I think.

All I no is licking multi coloured frogs gets you high..

4 options for the k03s from the a4

1) fit a k04 turbine from the s3/tt
2) fit a k04 turbine from the s3/tt and also fit the s3/tt compressor wheel and housing. Modification is needed to the TIP and intercooler pipe work as the compressor housing is bigger
3) as above but run the rs6 turbine and 2280 compressor wheel. This will make you c300bhp with the right mods.

4) keep licking frogs and pretend your going fast on your stock turbo!

Right I choose step 2...
Beach buggy are you able to carry out this conversion? If so where abouts are you and can you do it after Christmas for me?
What is step 2 capable of? Thanks
