Recommend me a battery to start my 2.5tdi in very cold conditions

Would someone be kind enough to help recommend me the highest capacity battery I can get in my '98 2.5tdi V6.

I need something to ensure it starts in extremes of cold.

I live in Finland and last winter I put a Bosch Silver battery in the car. Even with my thermostat not working and the glow plugs not coming on at all, it still started in -28 C! Very slowly cranked over of course but still started. I have been really happy with the Bosch battery but don't remember the capacity off the top of my head. I'll look at it tonight and let you know. Anything colder than -25 and I usually take the battery off though so I can't say how it copes with even lower temperatures but most batteries suffer below -25 anyway.

I've got an 000 915 105 DJ (85ah) battery. Works fine, and we had temperatures as low as -18 two years ago. No idea regards the make. The 2.5 is a big lump, so anything with plenty cranking power is going to do the job. Bosch stuff gets my vote every time.

Don't know of any specific brand or make, but just look for the highest CCA and Ah you can, whilst retaining the same physical size.

You can't go wrong with the Varta Silver Dynamic Battery. Has a high CCA so very good for winter.

I had a look, sorry for the delay! The Bosch battery is a Silver S4 12V 574 012 068 680A 74Ah. On my other car I have a battery that was recommended by Audi here in Finland which is a Varta DE 12V 85Ah 450 A DIN 760A. I hope that means something to you. I got that info directly off the batteries themselves. I would recommend the Varta as Audi told me that this is the recommended battery for the 2.5 V6 Quattro in Finnish conditions. We get -35 or lower here so that battery should be just fine any situation you find yourself in except maybe Lapland at -50!
