Jardo's 'Journey to quattro' - My Story...

cheers chaps. think il opt for the i/c option with the 2.5" inlet/outlets. just wonder what diameter the hot side pipes will be
 
Did a couple of little bits this afternoon which I have been meaning to do for a while.

I've needed to properly debadge the boot for almost 3 years...

I want to find a new boot plinth that isn't bubbly too, I CBA to fill this one.

And I sprayed the IC pipes again to touch up the stone chips.

I'm not 100% happy with the boot, in fact I'm not really that happy with it at all. It looks fine until you inspect it and then it looks a little hazy and there is a small run, so I am going to flat it down tomorrow and re-lacquer it.

To be fair I did to it on the road outside my house, with no masking at all and only a can of Halfords gloss black and a cheap can of lacquer haha.

Coldness means good boosting weather ;) Good boost this morning showed a peak grams per second airflow of 183g/s, on water fuel too. About 229bhp so it is still going well.

I took the car up on the Moors and had a bit of a play with my polarizing filter; but the car was filthy so the results weren't the best.

Because it's getting cold I'm getting as much wax as I can on at the moment, so I built up another layer of Dodo juice Purple Haze when I got home to try and get some colour and depth back in my paint.

I also wet sanded and tidied up my boot, the bumper will need respraying but the boot is at least spot on. I can do the bumper in my garage over the next few days.

Going back out now to seal it all off. I love cleaning cars :)
 
Thanks Dan, shame black cars look rubbish after 5 seconds of cleaning them!

And yeah Westy, I got the IC pipes lined up perfectly but when Phil and I did the clutch I had to take half of it apart again and can't get them straight again because of the catch can fouling the pipes. It'll be sorted next week though :)

I think I've got a problem, in that I used Dodo Supernatural to wax my wheels. Does this make me a tart?

Also tested a DV I found for him on eBay, it was listed as faulty but I was pretty certain that due to the simplicity of DV's unless it was warped then we could fix it. He won it for less than a Chinese take away, so I stripped it down and all seemed fine. Gave it a bit of lubrication and fitted it, it's brilliant.

Baileys DV30 I think.

I dropped the oil and did a lubrication service on the A3 after work today, as well as a rad flush and new G13. All in all a very productive day :)
 
The front is looking alot tidier than it was Jardo, still not a fan of the intercooler sticking out like a sore thumb but it does look miles better than it was.
 
Very nice wheel mate, whats it off though? The badge on it looks like a prefacelift s3 style badge but ive never seen that wheel in a s3 before!
 
Nice steering wheel. I guess that's the pre face lift S3 wheel?
Good buy on the dv. Wipe the fingerprints of it. :p
 
DV's not mine, it's to go on Phils so we'll clean it up before we do :p

As far as I can tell from the part number of the airbag it is for a B5 RS4 like this -

In all seriousness; I'm starting to like S3's. I would really love a nice pre-facelit S3, now that they're at the price point they should be it makes them look tempting.

Reckon I might be able to find an S3 owner that wants to downgrade?
 
Yeah 2800 I paid, its in great condition and I'm loving it.
 
I love my prefacelift s3, i just think the interior is soooo much better than my mates facelift.

For the price no their a bargain, 4 years ago i part exd my corsa and handed 4k in cash over lol, now their sub 3k and theirs some minters.
 
Exactly dan there will be some dogs coming through now they have reached rock bottom.... and little twats get hold of them...mine is a 10k plus car :p or at least my wife thinks it is....ha ha
 
The wheel came off an X plate A4 B5.5, that someone had put a load of S-Line bits on, although it had a 20v turbo in it, I had the car for some bits, took the wheel off and didn't think about it till Jardo came over
Im glad it's gone to a good home :) and Jardo gave me some bits I needed and found me an awesome DV, he's a top bloke, I'm glad to be able to help :)

p.s I will bring the actuator down tomorrow aswell dude

I don't want an S3 yet, not for a while.

My issue with them was always that they were three times as expensive to buy, twice as expensive to insure, and unless they had 300bhp (which at the time wasn't possible on stock turbo) they were no quicker than an A3.

Where as now they are sensible money, and within a grand of the same spec A3, insurance isn't as much of a problem because I'm not 12, 300bhp is readily available and they can be made quicker than an A3 on the stock turbo. So I'll review the situation when I reach my 250bhp.

What you're failing to realise is that awesome people tend to be drawn into these sorts of circles, and as such it was only a matter of time before Phil got involved in our little gang haha :p
 
Dave it is a very small world, I showed Jardo the winifold and the first thing he said was there was writing on number one runner, I feel I'm missing out because its not there now lol

Nick I'm hoping with the winifold and other mods niki will be able to get my tqs to about 285 so I can join the high power crew :)

Took a half day at work today because it was ****ing dead.

Sorted out a load of shocking stuff inside my car, gave it a proper hoover, treated all the plastics, fixed my cubby hole door and a load of other little bits.

No pictures of fixing the cubby hole door, but basically the little lobe on the mechanism had snapped off so I heated up a pin with a lighter and softened the plastics, then forced the pin into the mechanism and snipped the end off the pin and re-attached the spring.

I cannot stand my ****ed climate panel and all the scratches from women being idiots and being unable to press switches without using their nails.

I also cleaned my engine bay, good old Duck Oil :) Sprayed it EVERYWHERE and then just wiped down the bits I could get to. Will smell nice when I start it up tomorrow :p

I am going to spray the IC pipes and the inlet crackle black at the weekend; I've got enough for the inlet so I'll do that first.

The car is nearly at a point that I am happy with it cosmetically. Phil has got a set of leather Recaro's I might buy if he decides to sell them, and we're going to lower it a little bit on Sunday but otherwise that's it :)

I don't think there are many snobby S3 owners about. Especially not 8L owners. We all (8L owners) know we're driving old, creaky VW Golfs in a frilly dress.

I don't think it'll be long before either the A3 or S3 appears on piston heads as "shed o the week"!
 
Most of the snobs have moved up to 8P's to be fair, they're a cheap car now too.

I saw a stage 1 facelift A3 with 120K on the clock for £995 the other day. Wasn't bad at all!

Good shout, but personally I think that might be a step too car with regards to seeming like an S3 wannabe?

See what you mean about the buttons on the Climate/radio mate, kinda lets down an otherwise immaculate interior :(

I've swapped the DV back now, it's in Phil's capable hands haha.

Car is more rapid then ever now I've lapped in the DV and checked over for boost leaks etc.

Roughly 232.5bhp, not bad for a stage 1 map. Got to be one of the most powerful stage one cars out there :)

Cannot wait to get it mapped again in January.
 
I once saw 190g/s from my st1 AUM daily las winter, 238bhp on the liquid! Same car spec, same map as yours :)

186 is good going dude :) going to fly once it's st2!
