This is not the actual group buy - just asking how many could get interested.

I´m planning to get unique single mass flywheel with Sachs race engineering (SRE) -765 cover from M5 BMW. Specified torque limit for the cover is 590Nm with organic plate, and 700Nm with sintered plate. Friend of mine had 645Nm and the organic sachs plate was still holding, so those specified values has some room.

I'll send standard clutch+DMFW as a model so they could desing the flywheel as a bolt on for the 02m (s3 6spd) box.
I was thinking that weight should still be around 8-9kg to get less chatter.

The estimated price for one flywheel was 400€ (~325£), the cover is around 310€ (~250£), and SRE dampened organic plate cost 265€ (~215£). I'm pretty sure that the price could drop if we can get few "extra" orders. It isn't cheap, but the quality matters more than the price for me. Still the Sachs own kit cost more than that, and the M5 cover can handle at least 70Nm more..

Does anyone know any place where I could get ring gears ("starter gear") separetly? The price of the flywheel includes machined gears, but it could drop the price a bit if the ring gear comes separetly.

i've been looking all over for a reasonably priced (and not in the dam US!) SMFW for a while, and cant find one.
im not willing to pay the 325 you suggest it will be. its a round piece of metal for god sake.
be a dammed good business to get into though

Thank You for shearing Your thoughts..

Just in that case, just for You karl: Round pieces of metal VS. Flywheel. Hope that next time You know the difference... You think good grade steel is cheap? The machines and softwares cost more than Your car (even with Your jetex), the flywheel have to be designed, manufactured etc etc.. So good luck with Your new business..

As I said, its not a bargain and the price was just for one.

you know what, that is totally understandable...
lets make a flywheel for NO REASON, when there are many cheaper alternatives already. yeh. *** great idea that.
lets go right ahead.

HEY EVERYONE!

COME IN HERE AND PAY OVER THE ODDS FOR POINTLESSLY CUSTOM MADE SHEEEITE!

You're forgetting that you can tell all your mates you have BMW M5 parts on your car ;-)

I want organic plate also so need better cover to handle the torque.

I dont care if the part is from M5 or Fiat punto as long as it works WELL.

And thanks superkarl, once again.. You seriously got good points with Your fukn oossom replies..
So why did You put KN filter to Your bike cause there is cheaper ones available. Same for B5 TIP, forge short shifter etc, why? With Your jetex and miltek I think the DMFW is pretty good enough so why even going to SMFW?
Nice to get flywheel pieces through Your leg and head "at least it was few pounds cheaper" - nice..

Sorry to bother You guys, I just like to do things right first time..

Buying the awesome kit and even getting the smf that it comes with machines so its a tough lighter would be easier and cheaper than all this.

Nice idea but there's stuff out there so just buy that instead of going to huge trouble. The cgmotorsports clutch kits are cheap then just sort a flywheel out.

Comparing to other mods and products is pointless, and subjective.

I understand your want for a clutch and pressure plate. But when it comes to smfw I personally want something more affordable.

And my reason for wanting one is I hate the way the car revs with the heavy DM. And with 400hp going through. Want SM, less problematic, and cheaper.

Cost Vs performance/function balance. Isn't that what we all have to do when modding.

Using another brand/model clutch is a sound idea if its easy and affordable. But there are adequate items available.

What about the smf kits that eurocarparts sell? I know that if the clutch needs replacing you have to use the same brand but the clutchs are cheap anyway! Also isnt their a 30% sale on so that would be a smf kit for under £300?

The main point for the unique flywheel is to be able to choose clutch cover that can handle torque with organic plate as much as possible. If I get flywheel which is designed for the S, that means I have to use those clutch setups that they have designed to be used with the FW.

Not 100% sure, but the awesome kit includes valeo SMF which weights same as the DMF, sachs cover and valeo releasing bearing. Someone could ask that from awesome..

Superkarl: I haven't found any adequate kit for my needs. SMF (around 9kg) with cover and organic plate that could handle +550Nm (440Lbft). Also the flywheel is part of the clutch. Different grade steels are more slippery than others, some can stand more heat etc.
I also calculate the cost of the parts very carefully as I'm still a student (working secondary).
But usually after all, the bit more expensive parts will be cheaper than the originally cheaper ones which might be needed to change again and again..
And sorry about the diction earlier...

Im running that ECP one, its happy handling 241bhp, (sorry don't know my torque figures!)
