Anybody Ebay "savvy" ?

Just wondered whether anyone has knowledge of ebay. I have a listing and have had 2 emails from people asking whether I would post the item outside the UK. One is from the States and the other from somewhere in Russia. It is not a very valueable item probably only making £40 if it sells. I have bought many things from sellers outside the UK via Ebay and have never had a problem so I am inclined to trust that there will be no problem if I do sell to one of them. I will only take payment by Paypal and dispatch when the funds are cleared. It is awful to be suspicious but you see so many sellers stating on Ebay that they will not post outside the UK I just wondered what the potential problem might be.
I would be very grateful indeed for some advice on this before I reply to them and let things go further.

Most people don't like posting out side of UK because of the additional work in posting and getting it there. The cost of the item if often less than the shipping. Make sure that if you do ship it you use a well known courier and get proof of delivery. The times I have had problems has been when using post and the person claims they never got it. If they don't want to pay the cost of a signed for delivery I think I would walk away.

Thanks for that. Good idea about proof of delivery etc. I think I will price it up at the post Office or somewhere and quote the price to the bidders and see what the reaction is.

The reason why sellers do not post overseas, or to certain countries is the amount of fraud chargebacks for non receipt of goods.

If you receive payment by Paypal, you have to abide by their rules.

If the buyer claims they did not receive the item, you have to prove to Paypal that it was received by the buyer. Paypal only accept online trackable proof, with a signature. What I mean is, they would need you to prove it has been delivered by providing a tracking number that Paypal can view on the internet, with a copy of the buyers signature as proof of receipt. Proof of postage is not acceptable. So if the buyer claims they didn't get the item, and you don't have online trackable proof that the buyer got the item, you lose the dispute.

So, certain countries you can get online tracking, but others you can't. And that is why people do not post overseas.

What he said, always get it tracked, if you send it un-tracked then you may as well take it down the garden and burn what ever it is your selling,

Also add onto your listing that any return postage costs are the responsibility of the buyer.

I am currently at war with eBay over a sale, and hate everyone and everything to do with the corporation as they only have the buyers interests at heart and to hell with the seller.
Long story short, buyer receives item, says it doesn't fit his car despite my listing description, claims to eBay item not as described and they rule in his favour, sends me a photo of the item now broke (rear light lens), I appeal to eBay and they dismiss my claim saying I can't prove it, despite the buyer sending me a ****** photo of it broken.
Mind you, the facebook party listed at his address should prove interesting

I remember when eBay was like an online car boot sale, now everyone seems to be out to rip each other off.

True... and whats with the threats? I was one month late in paying my e-bay fees of £75 because I didn't get any e-mail or post notification whatsoever so it slipped my mind but I didn't see why I should because long story short the buyer messed around and e-bay ruled in his favour... all this stuff about the customer is right? Sometimes the customer is just a flipping twot... and they sent me a letter that they would be sending someone to speak to me about this... I responded that I would have the Police ready to greet them (neighbour is a sarg.).. didn't hear anything back... 3 months later... another threat... the door bell rings, call over Sarg. and the guy does a runner (he spoke into the intercom that he was from e-bay)... why trust a site that employs mob like methods to re-inforce what they believe is right?
