starting?TDI 130. MPG? CAN YOU HELP?

my a4 tdi 130bhp (awx engine) starts first time in the morning,and maybe start ok for a good 2-3 days without a problem,then suddenly one day in the week the engine will turn for a good 3-4 seconds before it starts? WEIRD checked all pipes for leaks/splits/cracks and replace fuel filter.Also sometimes when i put my foot down hard it will have a 1 second hesitation then shoot off,throwin a little cloud of black smoke(maybe this is normal) Also i got 75 miles on 11 quid of fuel last week! local driving,ive heard this is not good,im testing this again this week see what figures i come up with.

What miles should i get on a tenner local driving?

Sounds like your glow plugs are failing. How many miles/how old is your car?

It most certainly is, and it's a 2004. with about 55k on the clock...

i did think about the glow plugs but it seems ok for a few weeks then the problems back,also it will do it if its when it running at normal tempreature aswell

You should be getting at least 10 miles to the pound no matter how aggressively you drive it.

Hello, before i go stealership maybe somebody know why my B6 1.9TDI 130(auto) does only 25mpg? yes mostly i do cold runs in morning and my temperature dont go over 60-70 cause its only 2-3mile to work (new thermostat,if i do abit longer run goes on 90 and sit there,but mpg still same). i worked out mpg corectly and its about 20-25mpg usualy, it can't be normal... HELP!

get it scanned with vcds, could be Maf, my 1.9tdi auto is doing 55mpg ,38 round town.

my audi is the same put it on snap on machine and its my temt sencor it messes with mpg because your ecu is tell the engine that its cold so it chucks more diesel in to try warm it up ive changed mine and now its spot on i was only getting 28mpg

thanks mate, i thought about it. however i booked it to connect to computer tomorrow. hope they will let me know what's going on. but most likely its sensor, dont see any other reason, atm its get warm damn slow, i think its way too slow, tahtw hy changed thermostat,but nothing changed... anyway will see tomorrow and let everyone know

right... tested my car today, Mechanic said that car is immaculate and completely no faults on it. and my mpg is that low only because of cold 2mile runs to work and back. but if i do long runs on warm engine mpg goes 2x better ... Conclusion is Audi a4 1.9 Tdi is motorway car. don't get myself now... why did i go for diesel? anyway doing only 5-6k miles a year only. 1.8T would do me same mpg
