Hi all, I'm considering buying an A6 Avant probably around the 2005 - 2007 reg and hopefully the 2.7 TDI but probably fairly high miles around 100k. Are there any watch outs apart from the obvious like FSH?
Does any manufacturer make a diesel estate that isn't got cost you a fortune to maintain!?
Swirls flaps/motors on going thing but... Link:- Fontain Motors offer a improved arm linkage for IIRC £225 a side..
On ebay there are now remanufactured ones with improved linkage.. £340 for pair without motors...£225 for 1 side with motor...

Well, not sure I want to be buying a car with potentially so much hassle and cost. Think I'll be going for a 2009 Mazda 6 Sport 2.2d, it's not an Audi but it's a lot of car for your money.
Good cars but not without their faults. 2.2diesel's stretch the timing chain, eat oil at an alarming rate, DPF fail regularly. And they are well known to self destruct engines by as little as 40,000 miles....get a petrol!
Might be a bit of exaggeration their mate. The oil issue and DPF issue is nowhere near as prevalent in the 2.2d as it was the 2.0d and as for the engines self destructing can't say I have ever heard that and there are plenty of cars around with 100k on them.
i own a mazda 3 2.2 diesel sport. i paid 21k for the car and its got 36500 miles. the car has been serviced at either mazda garages or citreon garages (using genuine mazda parts). last week the dpf light came. i drove straight to the garage, but about 0.5 miles before the garage, the oil light came on and the engine started rattling as i entered the garage. the garage drained 8.5l of deisel contaminated oil from the engine when it should of had 4.5l of oil. when restarted the engine failed. the car is now with mazda who are "considering" if it is a warranty claim. they have indicted 5k to replace the short engine. i have been told its a dpf regeneration problem can you give me any advice |
You've given one real life example and from what you are saying it's every car!
Yes. go for an 09 TDIe. Much more reliable and cheap to maintain too.
A good one with low miles start at about £13k. Is that too much?
I did say TDIe. That model only comes in a 2 litre.not a 2.7/3.0 with a good spec
2.0 TDI Le Mans would do nicely!
