MPG DIS Question

Hi

My car currently has the miles to empty feature on the dash, is it at all possible to change this? My old Golf had the computer with all the options and the wiper stalk had the controls to change between the options.

Is it be possible to activate the computer setting through VCDS and also would I be able to change the settings if I get the correct stalk?

Apologies if this has already been asked, I done a quick search but couldn't find an answer

Enable it via vcds and change your wiper stalk for one with the computer controls

I just done this recently

you need to buy and fit a stalk (about £35 second hand) i got a new one for about £80
Whilst you have the bottom half of the dash removed you need to use a snap lock connector on the brown/red wire going into the back of the instrument cluster and ground this to the chassis to stop the empty washer warning light


Then i copied this for the coding

To enable Cruise Control and DIS, you need to do the following:


1) Open VAG-COM (connected to your port and ignition in position II)
2) Click on module '16 - Steering Wheel'
3) Go into 'Recode (07)'
4) The only bit in the code you need to change is the second last digit (i.e. 0xxNx - where N is the bit to change, x are your current values). If you do not currently have CC or DIS, this should be '0'.
5) Make a note of the current coding!!
6) Change N to '4' (i.e. 0xx4x)
6) Click on 'Do it'.


7) Go back to the main 'Select Control Module' screen.
8) Click on the module '17 - Instruments'
9) Go into 'Adaption - 10'
10) Go to channel 19 and click on 'Read'
11) Make a note of the 'Stored Value'.
12) This may be a bit more of a tricky one, so if you are stuck, let me know the stored value and I'll tell you which code to enter. Basically, you'd need to have x12xx, where 'x' is your current value and 12 is the new coding. For help on what this means, try this site:

I find it odd that some cars did not come with that wiper stalk as standard kit, even the non-colour DIS has this functionality (change what it displays), so why not include the buttons as standard?
