So i took the calipers off and renewed the brake fluid on my S3 the other day. Unfortunately one of the clamps came loose and it ****** all the brake fluid out over night :(. So topped up the reservoir and bled the brakes using an pressure bleeder. The brake pedal still have more travel than it should of so i bled the brakes using the 2 person method (one on the brakes one on the nipple). Seems ok when the engine wasnt running. Fired it up today after getting it out of the garage and there is loads of travel. Its not spongy, just has a lot of travel, not so far that it fits the floor, but almost!
So i heard something about bleeding the master cylinder if you run the reservoir dry, but dont know where the bleed nipple is/how to do it?? Also heard that you need vagcom to bleed the master cylinder or something :S?? Help please!

Thanks

You've probably got air in the ABS pump. Pain in the **** to sort, but you just need to keep bleeding it through. Get some one to pump the brakes, then undo bleed nipple, and repeat.

I assume you're starting at the furthest point on the car, and working round?

Which bleed nipple are you talking about? The one on the master cylinder??

I did yeah.

Bleed nipple on the callipers.

If you've let the system run dry you'll get air trapped in the ABS pump, so you've just got to keep bleeding it through till its gone.

I think there's 2 bleed nipples on the master cylinder, you need to do them both before doing the rest of the system.... you may also need to cycle the abs pump using vag-com depending on how dry you let it get, also don't over preasurise your ezibleed by using a fully inflated tyre as this closes some valves inside the ABS pump and stops it bleeding properly..... they are an absolute pain to be honest and i was never happy with mine though they past the MOT no problem.... good luck

Ta guys. How do i get to/where are the bleed nipples on the master cylinder? And how do i bleed it? Thanks

Just commented on this on Sw dubs so ill keep me eye on this

As Bill says.... they are just the same as doing your calipers..... they can be quite hard to see but they are on the master cylinder just under the fluid reservoir if i rember they can be quite tricky to get a spanner on and access is harder on the S3 than a normal A3

I had this issue a few weeks ago when fitting and bleedin brembos and it was due to not enough pressure in the spare tyre I used with my Ezibleed kit. If you're bleeding like this, make sure you have 20psi in the tyre.

Thanks for the replies chaps! Bled the master cylinder, clutch and brakes last night and it's much much better!!
