Carbonio Intake / Carbon speed intake ???

The best solution is going to be a proper CAI such as the Forge or ITG(which is now sold via VWRacing),whereas the Carbonio offers very limited gains,and will not be sufficient with Stg2 or above.

Yes I had a look at the ITG which is £160 more but haven't thought of going stage 2 yet that why i am thinking of choosing carbonio for now.

That's much the way I was thinking originally,and I kept the stock intake and used a panel filter for a while......then the remap/mod bug bit again.

mod bugs is bad / i am thinking play around with something other than a panel filter so I came across with this but just wondering which one is carbonio intake???? or are they the same

From what I've read, some of these have had a proven loss of power.
This may have been on the 8L S3, might be worth putting in a search first...

Basically all of the panel filter types will give you similar results.

If you are even thinking of more than Stg1 then it's best not to bother with one as they're not a lot better than cosmetic mods.
 
Yh I already have but don't think anyone choose them :ermm:

As I told you via PM I run one on our Golf GTI. I have obviously got 1st hand experience of them all as we sell or have sold most of them and I chose to use the Neuspeed..... It is more than capable for stages 1, 2 and 3 and probably beyond.
 
right!! just had a look at the neuspeed p flo intake from loudchris 53 thread for his a3
the only concern I have is that the cone hasn't got a cover over it just like the evoms one / does it not attract c**p into the engine surely that not good?
according to mjr 901 he is happy with it.
this bring me onto changing my mind now

I have the Carbino on stage 1. Makes absolutely FA difference. Boy does it look pretty as anything though.....

Was running an ITG on 2+ so I have experienced the difference.

They are vastly underrated. A lot of big power cars in the US run these. We are developing a new intake in conjunction with Shark shortly (probably be well into the new year before it is ready!)

I had the ITG on my S3 and yes it was a great kit. But the retail is almost £200 more than the P Flo. I bought a Mk5 GTI when the S3 went and I decided to try the P Flo out of interest and it is great. We are going to run some tests to see what works best for us and I think we WILL use a larger bore pipe before the MAF but I am a little sceptical as to whether it is entirely necessary to be honest!

Yep! I completely agree! I've noticed they are very popular over there, I've not had had any problems at all with mine, its been great and mine only cost me £134!

Really cant complain with it. I've stuck some extra ducting from the fog light for it to almost make it a bit like 'forced induction', just so it gets fresh air and none of the warm stuff!

You're right...the Neuspeed is underrated,but it works and is nicely made.
The biggest restriction with things like the Neuspeed and ITG etc is the MAF itself,and using a larger pipe before (and after even),may not make a big difference,as the restriction remains,and this is the area where turbulent flow could occur......you'd need some aero studies for that though!
 
just my 0.02...most peeps over here buy stage 1 tune and CAI. Unfortunately, they tend to go Stage 2/2+ ect soon after and then buy another CAI. I have always said in cycling to buy your second bike first and I will also say to buy your second CAI first. It would be interesting to have a poll on this forum and ask:
How many have intended to stay at stage 1 and moved up?
How many have intended to stay at stage 1 and never moved up?

Is there any mileage in extending the pipework to get the filter sitting behind the fog? Is there even enough room back there?

I'm liking the sound of the P-Flo even if it isn't the prettiest of things!

The point of fitting the p-flo 'race extension' is to use the cooler air from beneath + yes theres room.

However, having it down there in our British climate is risky business. The filter is in great danger of becoming soaked + ie hydrolocked engine.

So thats why i fitted a 100mm pipe from fog to the filter higher up as water has a bit of difficulty going up :)

thanks mate - yeah that was my only concern about moving it down there. I like your solution - be good if you could make up a sort of cone shape so it sat flush all the way around that hole behind the fog grille if that makes sense

Well its not as if you actually see it, the plastic front is taken off for the picture :)

I wanted to make a Y piece for up the top there and do some twin cone arrangement, thought it might look quite cool!

Couldnt find a Y piece for shizzle though. :(

I assumed the engine can only suck what it needs/wants to suck. Where would you put the second cone? About half way down towards the fog?

Shouldn't be too expensive to get a Y piece manufactured at say a custom exhaust place?

Well, i think it needs to be silicone pipe really as it needs to pop over the end of the neuspeed pipe (which is metal).

If you think about it, us humans, we breath from 2 lungs which leads to 1 wind pipe. so a 2-1 if you like.

So if one of us humans only had one lung, we'd breath twice as hard for the same outcome.

So if i were to put 2 cones on it, then maybe, it might breath easier. As it would be also breathing on a 2-1 basis

Its a fair thought i think, but no doubt very marginal in actual findings....

The origianl Forge was sited behind the fog lamp,and i can't say it made any difference at all in terms of intake temps,as the intercooler is probably the biggest factor there,but it sure did make you very careful of standing water,so I wouldn't recommend it.
As for a Y-piece and 2 cones.....this doesnt make a lot of sense UNLESS the cone is the major restriction in the intake tract,and then increasing the cone area effectively,would help,but otherwise,you're still feeding the air into same diameter pipe.

Resistance to air flow is determined by a number of factors,one of which is the radius of the pipe,and flow is proportional to the 4th power of that,i.e.if you halve the radius,you may effectively decrease maximum flow by a factor of 16,assuming that you don't increase flow velocity to the point where turbulence occurs.
The other factors are way too complex for me!....in our case we wouldn't neccessarily be breathing twice as hard with one lung,as a lot of us have had lungs removed for various reasons,and the volume of the remaining lung often increases,plus we have an enormous amount of redundant capacity.
