Hi,
Bought my 09 plate A3 Cabriolet 3 weeks ago and its already been in the garage to be looked at.
Ive got wear patches on the roof in places where it is obviously rubbing on the mechanisms when i open and close it. The wear patches are pretty much on to the last threads in 3 places (no bigger than a 10 pence piece size) I do have pics of this and would put them on if i wasnt a newbie and not used to this site yet lol.
The Audi garage looked at it, emailed pics back to Audi warrenty and Audi warrenty are rejecting that it is a warrenty case!! Its 3 weks old!! Im obviously not happy with this outcome and am taking it further.

Anyway im wondering if anyone else has had probs like this with the hood.....and im sorry if ive posted in the wrong place, i just need to get familiarised with this forum 1st,

Cheers,

Melanie

It would help if you could post some pictures. I'll then have a look at mine although I haven't noticed anything as yet (Touch wood!)

I have a problem with my seat with the leather creasing really badly, Stoke Audi took some pictures and sent to Audi in Germany, no answer yet and that was 6 weeks ago. If you have had this response then I am feeling trouble ahead for me also

As a side note, you will get a far better response on the A3 8P forum. There are some great guys on there

Hiya,
Ive got some good pics of the wear patches but not sure where and how to post them on here? Point me in the right direction and i will get them on asap, you wont believe warrenty declined when you see it!

You will need to open a photobucket account (or other free photo hosting sites). Download your photo/s to your account. If you hover over the image a further menu will appear. Click on the direct link and then copy it. Like this:-

Capture-1.jpg

In the top of the message window in Audisport.net you will see several icons, click on the icon whci is "insert image" and the paste the link you have just copied.

Hope this makes sense, its the way I do it!

email this guy & explain the issues & be very stern, 3 weeks old, thats pathetic from audi, really is, how can they reject the claim, for gods sake it wasnt done by the user huh: jeremy.hicks@audi.co.uk

Yep get onto them that is UTTER crap.

They will fix it jsut a pity you have to jump through hoops to get it sorted.

If i was your salesman i would take the car off u put u in a another cab and say sorry.

Then I would be getting it sorted A.S.A.P!

Thanks Guys,

Here are the pics ive got of the hood...Hope the links work, the little tutorial was easy peasy, cheers ;o)

Thanks for that email address NHN, and edition i wish you were my car salesman lol

Will keep you posted

Melanie

Glad to be of help, but also when you post images, use the yellow box thats above your text box, looks like a small mountain & sun inside the yellow box, in this box you can insert the link addresses for each image, then the images show directly in your post.

& as for wear, thats absolutely terrible man, take it back & have a shouting match at your dealer, feck it let me go with you if you're in my area, thats absolutely ***** for a 3 week old car, I'd be fecking fuming at them if they said its not warranty.

Surely one of us boys near you can go with the lady to the dealership to help her out , I mean wtf, definitely kick up a stink & dont let up.

That is disgracefull.

I wouldn't have the balls to say that wasnt a warranty job if i worked at Audi.

Keep at them till you get it sorted.

Use the email posted by nhn, and dont hold back!!

hope you get this sorted ! There is nothing worse than having a problem with a your new pride and joy. It takes away that chuffed feeling..

Melanie, I definately wouldn't put up with that either, totally shocking for 3 weeks old. If your dealer won't do it try another one but I would want to kick up a right stink over this. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Melanie,

Just seen your in North Yorks :friends:

What dealers are you using?

If you need a 2nd opinion give me a p.m.

Im in N Yorks but my closest dealer is Teeside (25 miles away), ive just replied to a msg i saw of yours that you posted back in Feb about not having confidence in dealers.

Im taking the car back in at beginning of May, they are gonna have it for 3 days, take the roof apart and try and find a problem that is causing the wearing, then relay their findings to warrenty and see what comes of it.

Im not one for taking things like this lightly, i can be pretty fiesty (in a controlled, respectable way of course lol) so i will certainly be kicking up a fuss if i get the same reply from warrenty.

Im not impressed that i cant take it in till 5th May, it will be ****** holes by then, never mind wear patches! But its the only time they have a courtesy car available. Oh and im looking forward to the woman on the reception desk telling me i can only do 100 miles in the courtesy car as is policy....i think not when its a 50 mile round trip to their garage from where i live!

Rant over lol

Took the car in and apparently there are a handful of A3 cabs with this problem over Europe so its now a recognised problem (thank goodness)

Audi are in the process of trying to find a soloution to it and will be back in touch when they do. I wasnt being fobbed off either as i had confirmation of this from Jeremy Hicks' PA so im happy with the outcome, jusy hope they hurry up and find a soloution before it starts leaking.......

Cool, great news, glad you're getting resolved.

Just to say I've got a very frustrated and unhappy colleague with a 10 month old A3 Cab that has already had to have a new roof.

She opened the boot this morning to find standing water in there and is at her wits end with both the car and Sytner Audi in Knaresborough.

I've passed on details of this thread to her and suggested she emails Jeremy Hicks, although the problems with the roof and other faults including loose and broken trim mean she really doesn't have any faith left in either the car or the dealer and wants to change the car.

Hey get her to tell Mr Hicks she doesnt want the car anymore, simple, she has no faith in the car or dealer.

Hi, I'm having same problem with a3 cab roof and same runaround from audi! Would be glad to know if email to jeremy hicks did the trick or at least if audi have owned up and promised repair under warranty. My dealers just keep telling me they are waiting to hear from audi.

What a joke Audi UK are showing themselves to be, they gotta understand people are buying Premium cars from them at a premium price and they expect service to match. It's a sad day that you'd probably get better service at a goddam KIA dealer.

Good luck, all - my personal experience (with a service issue on my old 8L A3) at Teeside Audi was a very negative one too unfortunately.

Hiya,
Nope, still in the same situation i was over a year ago. Still no fix, apparently Audi are looking for a repair for the roof but in the meantime they will not just simply replace it for me.

I told them i wanted to hand it back but will have to take them through the courts to do that!

Let me know if you hear anything.

It is quite worrying, I think mine starts to have developed one at same place as Filthygorgeous, near the boot. The Audi guy said it is not near the mechanism and should be ok, but I am not sure anymore

Hi

My Wife A3 roof is just the same, the car is just under 2 years old. We had noticed the wear holes getting bigger, but then we had part of the rear window trim on the roof come loose, come apart and damaged the internal trim of the car, when opening the roof, good job no one was in the back seat at the time!!

I took the car straight to to Adui Leicester and they said they could not book it in for a month!!!, was told not to use the roof!!!, you try telling may wife that she can not use the roof for the next month, why do you think we brought a convertable, its the summer!!

In the end i have one or two contacts so got on the phone, cut a long story short i ended up with the Dealer Principle and the Service Manager contacted me to say Audi are aware they have a problem with A3 roofs and are just about to release a fix note to all dealers, hence the reason they could not have the car in for a month, they wanted the warrenty details before they undertook any works.

They had the car from yesterday and i am due to get it back tonight, so fingers crossed it is all sorted. Will post the results later......

Hiya, thanks for the post.
How did you get on? I cant believe it would take only 1 day to replace a whole roof? I am very eager to find out what they have said to you. ....

Hello all, I have a 58 reg A3 Cabriolet with a blue hood - this has nasty looking wear patches around the back end mechanism.

I'm about to book this in for its first service and I'm going to mention this at the time.

Any further info about Audi's response to this issue?

Looking at the pics they are similar to my wife's A3 Cab (just 2 years old). Currently in for a full replacement roof.

An update to the above, Portsmouth Audi have been brilliant and replaced the roof under warranty. Originally they were going to change parts, however they then ordered a complete fully assembled new roof which was fitted

The new roof sits slightly higher when folded.

I'd like to re-start this thread as I've recently noticed the same wear marks on my A3. I've had it 6 months and its just about to run out of warrentee so I took it up to my local dealer quicksharp to get it logged. It's only on the passenger side which is odd and I don't remember seeing any marks when I bought it. I have had the interior felt panel replaced that you can see through the back window, beneath the roll hoops and wonder if they had to take the back part of the roof apart to do this and thats begun to cause the wear?

Has anyone else got any stories of similar issues since this thread tailed off last??

My '09 with 29k on the clock has a roof with a couple of wear patches where the fabric thread is about to be broken. The car is of course well out of warranty so as the roof is rarely up & I'm not too bothered about appearances am considering finding an vehicle upholsterer who could glue on a couple of pastches.
Plan B might be to see what my local Audi dealership has to say ( car purchased 100 miles away from West London Audi H/O ) maybe contatc Audi H/O, in case there might be a 'goodwill gesture' towards the cost of a new roof. Too be honest as the car is black with S-Line red badge detailing, red callipers etc I fancy a dark red roof.
Whats your thinking on this?

Letter and email and photographs just sent to UK MD Martin Sander. I expect a standard brush-off and if so may seek advice from Trading Standards.

Bloke from Audi H/O phoned and after initial chat started wittering on about if the car had been serviced by Audi, no doubt already looking for quick escape to avoid any responsibility. He was curtly told that the fault has nothing whatsover to do with the mechanics of the car and that the hood is not a service item. Audi H/O have now arranged for car to be inspected next week by local dealer. But again I have no expectations that Audi will do anything - interesting project though.

How did you get on with your roof?

I had wear patches a few years back and had the roof replaced under warranty, but the wear is coming back. But out of warranty audi want £80 just to have a look at it
