Front door speaker recommendations please

Hi All,

The drivers door speaker in my S3 has started crackling and farting therefore I'm looking at replacements. It's a Bose system and up to now it's all standard kit. I'm not looking to 'blow the ****** doors off' but I am happy to spend reasonable money on a replacement set that will at least mildly improve the system. Whatever I buy will likely be sitting in AndyMacs speaker adaptors with the tweeters in their usual position. I may add some sound proofing to the door cards whilst they're out.

Is there an ohm rating I should be looking for or will any drop in on the standard head unit? Anybody done something similar and can recommend a reasonable pair?

not really the answer your looking for but i had bad earth connection on my battery terminal and since i cut back and renewed the earth wire my drivers side speaker has stopped "crackling and farting"!!!

Are you hoping to retain the standard amp and sub and rears or change the whole lot?

The Bose fronts are 1.5 ohms impedance, so if you are keeping the Bose amp then you will have to drive it a lot harder even with low impedance replacements. Personally I would replace the drivers like for like or replace everything

That's interesting, did the bad earth cause any other abnormalities? It seems weird that it would only affect one speaker?

I was hoping to retain the standard kit for the time being, I'd prefer to invest my funds in suspension upgrades really...

Thanks Andy, it seems pointless work replacing them with standards given their quality but I suppose that is an option. If I retained the head unit and sub/amp for the time being, to replace the rest I take it I'd need:

- A pair of 13cm front components with 1" tweeters
- Front door adaptors
- A pair of 16.5cm coaxials
- Rear card adaptors
- A four channel amp
- Associated cabling...

This could get pricey!

I have the same issue in my S3 the last few months but only on cold mornings.

The drivers door speaker is cracking and hissing until the interior has warmed up. Its driving me nuts.

I cant find the speaker part number in ETKA, does anyone know what it is or a direct replacement speaker part number?

I have the BOSE system too and dont want to change anything but the drivers speaker.

Is that the sizes then, 13cm fronts and 16.5 rears? I wanna get some rockford fosgate components inc tweeter and get an andy mac sub etc and cards. prob cost alot?

If it's temp related it could be the amp rather than the speaker as they do suffer from dry solder joints.
Does the crackling come from just the woofer or the tweeter as well?
The part number is 8L0 035 411 for the replacement front driver, but if the tweeter is crackling then it will be the amp not the speaker at fault. The speakers crackle because they can get wet from where they are mounted, and when they dry out the cone gets distorted which causes them to foul the voice coil slightly.

i have crackles coming from the passenger side front speaker but my system is non-bose. i am currently piecing up everything to put a full aftermarket system in, i currently have andy mac speaker adaptors for front and rear, inphase 300watt underseat sub, inphase 1200watt 4 channel amp with wiring kit and some 6.5inch inphase xt63's for the rear so i just need some decent components for the front and a nice headunit. i will post pictures once i have everything and throughout the install.

I had he same crackling noise from the left side door speaker, which used to go when the car warmed up. Re-soldered the connector terminals on the amp, which made no difference. Changed the amp for a second hand one, which made no difference and the crackling is there all the time, so going to try the speaker now.

I had this and went through the same fault finding as you. In the end I bought a replacement front left Bose speaker from Audi. The problem was fixed straight away once I swapped the bad speaker out. I have a hunch the Bose speakers are no longer available from Audi so you might need to source a second hand unit.
