I believe the hid bulb has gone in passenger headlamp as when I switch it on, it lights for about .5 a second then goes off and warning light comes on dash.
After a quick search on here I have found people seem to have been buying bulbs in link below
Audi S3 HID Xenon 2 Replacemnet Bulbs Set D2S 6000K | eBay

Are these any good as they are a lot cheaper than the dealers or Halfords prices but my main concern is if they cause the error light to remain on or they are useless (they do seem very cheap) if they are ok I will order some but as I have never changed hid bulbs before it would be nice to get some opinions on which bulbs first.

The headlights are standard and the bulbs are the original ones in there I presume (2002 facelift S3) I realise if I swap a bulb in these I will need to do both in order to keep the same colour shade as they do dim over age from what I have read on here.
i will have a look at swapping the bulbs over n/s to o/s on Sunday just to make 100% sure it is the bulb and not the ballast (hope it's not as these are no doubt silly money)

on a brighter note I can change the side lights to led at the same time to match if anyone has a good place for these which would match nicely with the hids so they don look yellow ;-)

Bulbs should be fine mate, i ran ebay jobbies for over 2 yets trouble free so id just buy them. I knly paid about £20.

got these from ebay

£4.98 for two had to wait a while for delivery and they seem to work ok/

worth a punt for a fiver

If the bulb is lighting up even slightly would that not suggest it was the ballast? Have you swapped the other bulb in to check that it doesn't do the same?

Was hoping to swap bulbs around today but had to go to work, I will delay or ordering bulbs till tomorrow if you think it's posable it may be the ballast. I hope it's not as I presume that is expensive.
Have not had a hid bulb problem before so just guessed it would be the bulbs at fault.

^^^^^ What he said ^^^^^
That was my thought's. if the bulb lights at all I would imagine its the ballast gone...

A quick update finally got a free afternoon to check and luckily it is the bulb which has blown so will be ordering them this evening (think 6000k seems about right) many thanks for the replys and advice once again, No doubt if I had ordered bulbs first it would have been the ballast
