S3 I might be buying tomorrow....thoughts....?

Hi everybody, im new here...just joined as im in the market for an S3 and went and test drove this today......?

Loved it....but wasnt sure about the gearbox...but probally just not used to it! what you guys think...? good deal.....?

Vehicle View - Audi S3 2.0 T FSI quattro S Tronic 265 PS - Aberdeen

Im in same position as u on the hunt for s3, I just feel the s-tronic don't give u enough control of car and the s3 is the type of car u want to drive and hae full control! U can't beat a manual for that. There is a nice sprint blue 60 plate at Dundee audi for same money but manual

Great colour -S- Tronic is something you learn to control.

Its brilliant, but there is that slighly less involvement with the car.

Ive had both and currently have S-Tronic. It's going quite well at the moment.

DSG gear ratios are a bit of a p1ss take, 6th gear at 35mph.....jeeeeze.

That can be solved with DSG map.

If you plan to mod, go DSG, it will save you 1k-ish on a clutch that you will inevitably need with added power. (S -Tronic automatically limits torque)

yes well iv always liked the Red s3 and just went past today for a look and saw it.....as for involvement with the car...i kno what you mean....had a 240bhp integra Type R for last 2 years and going to that id a fair change but just want something new. i really like it......just thought it was maby a little over priced....iv been offered 1k off it...but thats it! dont have much audio and communication only a radio...and doesnt have cruise ither which is a pitty....do they come with bose as standard.....? also are thoese seats an Extra as i cant see any others with those seats.....?

6th gear 35....i did notice today it felt very Jumpy.....? was like Crusing along..and when i went to boot it...felt so Strange......? almost like sumthing wasnt right.....im totally new to this tho so probally just me. Dont think i can afford to Mod if i get this lol!

The seats were probably an extra someone ordered for it with regards to buying it you don't have to buy that car there look on the Audi used site and if you find a few you like you can ask your dealer if they can get it for you because it is possible for them to ask the other dealers and transport it to them so you don't have to travel a long way worth a ask. If I was to buy a S3 now and couldn't find one like mine (with buckets rare as hens teeth) then I'd go for this one:- Vehicle View - Audi S3 2.0 T FSI quattro 265 PS - Preston not to everyone's taste but I love it. Hope that helped a bit.

Just one thing to consider, they will almost never accommodate this outside of their own dealer network. Two dealers both being Audi franchises will not mean they're willing to shift cars around for viewing without a deposit, or sometimes they'll just say no until you buy it. If you go on the dealer's site and it links to the location selling the car, then they likely will do their best to let you see that particular car, but will also offer to show you the closest thing they have on site for test drive etc.

Deffiently overpriced, I bought my 10 plate s3 black edition with Bose, cruise and folding mirrors and rear parking sensors from and Audi dealer for 20k with 14k on the clock, and that was 5 months ago!!

What he said.

Just to add though...

DSG is a great everyday box, I use mine in auto most of the time as I do mostly town driving.
It will be difficult for me to go back to manual now though as DSG has made me very lazy to the point having a clutch pedal is a real inconvenience.

Manual is better for hooning though so if you drive `spririted` most of the time then DSG might not be for you.

cheers

Mine is 99% in flappy paddle manual mode, apart from when in heavy traffic - which i avoid like the plague.

Im yet to venture to the DSG map, but heard good things.

On corners and various other hooning, you can still go nuts with DSG, the car doesnt become unsettled, change down before the corner and power through i find is best.

The only rubbish thing about DSG is if your at a busy junction, you need to pull out fairly quickly, and you dont want to use launch control. With a manual you just add power in relation to amount of clutch you let go, but with DSG, you put your foot down and it bogs and then turbo finally kicks in, it lacks the initial urgency. If you have ever driven something with a centrifugal clutch, like a go kart or something, Its that sort of lag. slow to start with but then once it picks up, great.

It does make up for this in other aspects of driving, like outright amazingly quick gear changes.

thanks for the Replys,

im away to go back up in a couple of houres and takeing it for a longer test drive...as im really not sure about the Gearbox....

do you think there will be much chance of me getting it down to about 20k......? there doing £500 off any used audi at the moment and because i dont have a trade in another £500 off to thats 22..... would really like it for 20K...as it does lack some of the extras....the seats are Fantastic when you see them....im not bothered about the buckets as they are just as nice personally in that colour....IMO! wouldnt of minded some of them tho....
  • BOSE Sound System
  • Mobile Telephone Preparation
  • Audi Music Interface
  • Satellite Navigation

If i Stick a large Deposit down....was thinking 10K....they might be willing to give me that bit extra off.....? or maby not....anybody got some inside of how the Operate....? cheers

You can add Bluetooth, rnse and ami as and when you are ready although likely to cost around the £1500 mark, retro fitted (not by audi!)

i think what you should do is go drive it again, then head down to dundee audi and drive the sprint blue one that has all the things you want apart from the colour and compare the two. Its priced at same money but has sat nav ami black leather i think phone prep. At end of day its not too far to dundee from aberdeen and a decent trip and give you a back to back with manual and dsg

be like most thing from my experience working out of Aberdeen (Oil=Money) so they charge a bit of a premium for most things and they know people will pay! every other car when I drive to Dyce is an Audi, BMW etc probably worth having a look at the one in Dundee as well they might knock a bit more off, can always try playing them off against each other see where that gets you.

Yes i might try that.....well i dont work in oil and dont make a huge sum of money so they can give me some money off lol!

Going to go back up and try and get it for 20.500 or 21K and i think il take it

so an extra £1000 off over that there offering already, hopefully they can do that.

Best they can do is 22....said they would be giving it away at 21k LOL!

Thats rubbish, giving it away at 21k. They probably have about 4k in that deal.they are obviously selling enough cars to hit their targets at present. Walk away, and any money you like they will ring you within 48hrs to see if you are still interested, tell them to stuff it and you are buying elsewhere as they wouldnt budge today. Grossly over priced in my book with no goodies. There will be more available if you wait and travel.

Mate, Aberdeen Audi is a bunch of tossers!!! When I was looking in to changing my orange one for a new/demo car. Monthly payments where coming out at £600!!! Mark (Brotek performance) called up Edinburgh Audi and withing 2 days I was sitting in a brand new panther black Audi, fully kitted for £450 a-month with a 2k deposit. Audi Aberdeen is ridiculously over priced!!!!!!!!!

I've had my last 3 cars from Aberdeen and to be honest getting a deal is impossible as they know someone will always buy the car. If you feel it's to much plus doesn't have the options you want walk away and see what's available on the Audi site. Surely you will be able to find the car with the spec you want for the price your happy with. Plus a train ticket is cheap enough

Give Edinburgh Audi a ring and speak to Ross. He will do a lot of digging around to get the car you want at the right price. He's the guy that sorted my new Ibis White S3 and Ilims Panther Black S3. Top bloke.

Sadly Aberdeen is just too good for business, so they don't even have to try. Make sure they know, if they do call, that you went somewhere else because they were entirely unaccommodating. No chance that car is worth £23k, it's got almost nothing on it apart from the standard kit. White one's not exactly fully loaded either, but better kit than the red one, white will sell on more easily than red, and starting at £3k less? Go for that one, or like Mark said, call Edinburgh and get a real Audi dealer to sort you out.

Don't like the look of those beige seats either...

cheers for all the comments guys.....going to take that advice and if i get a call in next few days...say iv found another at another audi garage. Although i really do love that red with the seats...the pics really dont do it justice but i just dont feel 23K is a fair price!20- 21k i would of bought it......theres to many minted fok in aberdeen with money to waste so no doupt it will sell pretty quick. I did say to the salesman can you not do me a better deal and he said oh its cause of the spec of the car...but its not even that good a spec.....Triptronic...and the Seats...he said are both a 2K upgrade.....CARE!!!! lol

I must be reading this thread wrong. You WANT those seats..........?
No way would I pay Aberdeen prices! Always ridiculous!

as said, just walk away, when i brought my 8l S3 from a forcourt, i told them the deal i wanted with my trade in etc, and they basically said no, so i walked away, the next morning they woke me up asking me to go back in and test drive it and see what they could do on the price, again, they didnt meet my needs, so again i walked away, then again, as i thought, they phoned once more saying they had managed to meet my requirements with another finance company :)
deal done :)

To be fair they havnt phoned back, but if they did am not even sure i would pay 21k now!

Its got to be worth around that value tho surely?

Haha yes i think the seats look awsome in the flesh. :)

That colour combo of red with beige seats would make the car hard to move on I would have thought? It's definitely a marmite car.

Ibis White with black leather ftw!

I would wait for the absolute perfect car for you, especially spending 20k! S3's are not exactly rare. You might not get many takers come sale time with the red one.

if you can stretch to 26k lovely 11 plate suzuka grey one on gumtree fife!! i would of had it if i hadnt already bought an ibis white one

i just got it up...wow that really is amazing...love that! Im away to buy a house or a flat in the next 6 months.....so cant afford that...would have to buy it outright as well....haha! looks So good tho!!

Mate of mine just paid 25K for an 11plate Black Ed Sportback, Manual in Ibis with Panoramic roof.
Car has 16K miles and thats from a main dealer.

Amazing how strong residuals still are on these S3s.

That's not worth £26k privately... but he's right saying it's the only Suzuka S3 for sale.
