Hi guys,

As above, I am looking to buy a 2.0 TDi DSG for my 55mile each way commute, I know the manual does slightly better MPG but I like the idea of flappy paddles and auto gears for the undoubted traffic i'll hit on the M25 :(

I have seen one I like but it is a 55 plate with 64k on the clock and there is no indication of it ever having had a Cambelt change and more importantly no record of the DSG gearbox oil and filter being changed!!

Is this likely to cause problems and the dreaded PRNDS? Or do you think it will be ok if i get these both done as soon as I buy it?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Dave

Hi dave, welcome to audi-sport.net. Read the faqs threads at the top of the page, lots of useful information in there. Where are you located? Enjoy the forum. :) x

Hi Dave, I have the same model. If you are happy with it and the way it drives, just get the jobs done. It should be fine.
If it's from a dealer get him to do it or haggle. Both jobs cost me £400-ish!

And the belt should have been done 2 years ago....

Thanks Sandra, I have looked through the FAQ section, but did not see anything relating directly to my questions.

Cheers Fangio, yes I am planning to try to get the dealer to do it before I pick it up, will go and see it/test drive it and see what he says...I have already got him down by £300 on the phone though so not sure how far he's willing to go!

Yes, I know! I have found a few that I liked recently and have enquired about the DSG oil change and cambelts and hardly any of them have had them, even though they are nearly 8 years old and more than 60k on the clock, shocking!

Have you had any problems with the car at all? I know Audi are famed for their reliability, but have heard some scary stories regarding the reliability of the DSG gearbox/electronic unit and also the injectors and heads cracking.

Well, I've had her a year now, we live on the edge of the Heartbeat country and virtually all my driving is on these narrow, twisty, very hilly back roads. She's never in one gear for very long and rarely in 6th, but still averages 45 from tankfull to tankfull!
Ain't missed a beat yet and not had to put a drop of oil or water in her (Touch wood!)

Ok thanks for the reply mate, I look forward to the ultra smooth gear changes then...and decent MPG! :)

Check the engine code, theres a thread on here somewhere on which one to avoid as it has the head tends to crack.
And is expensive to fix!!

Also check the turbo isnt making a loud whining noise as it might need replacing, again an expensive fix.

Apart from that, a good service with new cambelt, water pump, DSG filter n oil change should be fine.
