Is the q7 tdi 3.0 a PD engine........?
or is it a standard diesel engine that can use any decent diesel oil? Il hopefully be buying one, just trying find out the things to be wary of ,common faults etc,but im not sure if its a PD engine,or how reliable this machine is? i.e engine/gearbox/suspension/turbo problems?

not sure what engine it uses pd/or not as I don't know much about Diesel engines

there a very reliable car tho.

i don't know of any faults really odd gearbox going but that's about it.

secondhand rough guide prices

£1000 for a gear box
£250 an air strut if suspension goes
£300 - £800 for a turbo (shouldn't go tho unless buying a high mileage car)

servicing £450 for a normal, up to £700 ish for a major (not had a major yet so that's a guess )

older 3.0tdi is the killer tax band £475 (top band)

Tyres aren't cheap if you buy decent ones. £700-£800 ish

I tend to keep 3k in another account just for the car just in case!

hear gearbox/engine are bullet proof..........?.............what mpg are you getting local and on a run?

yeah i read that they are mainly bullet proof but you get the odd bad apple.

between 22-26 mpg town driving only

on a run to work 3-4 miles motorway, traffic stops and 17 miles country/normal roads it easy does 33mpg. It does get the odd toe down on the way to work too because i am usually running late.

driving like a vicar it does 35-37 mpg , and it does that on a long run too.

roughly it easy does 250+ miles to £60 at the current price of £1.42pl (ish)

if you are looking to get a 2010 on q7 they are cheaper to tax , better on fuel with the stop start and i think they have 7 speed to the motorway runs?

hope this helps

wow.....if im right there a good engine?....and you can use any good quality oil?,instead of paying over the odds for the special PD oil?
V6 dervs are Common Rail.

some good info.......thanks,,,,,,,i thort audi state 20mpg local?

Buy Quantum Fully synthetic from your Audi dealer.

It's a good engine but when they go wrong they're expensive to repair for example, if the timing chain starts rattling it's a £4k fix.

sorry that was supposed to be 22-24 ,

it really does depend on how long the engine has been running and if its warmed up,
if you nip round the corner to the shop from cold it does low teens,

its better once warm easy in the 20's pottering round town

and it uses alot more with harsh acceleration but i dont need to tell you all that lol

yeah as above could it be costly , thats why i would only buy one with full service history

Thanks, definatley getting one with full service history,i wouldnt buy any car without history,i know there good for a lot of mileage,il make sure the engines sweet as a sewing machine, any slight rattle will point to the chain, but im sure they last a good few miles.
intake flap ive been advised to be carfull about........what years yours?

mine is a 2008 57 plate 52k.

when i bought mine i didnt know how to check the intake flap do you know how to check it ?

i think if you check the basics , history , look at the bills see what work has been done as audi provide full work sheets with every service, if it drives and runs good , im sure you will be fine.

i started over thinking it when i was looking at mine thinking what if but at the end of the day its a 40k+ car new and its not a boy racer car so they tend to be looked after,

check the previous owners too you dont want to end up with an ex hire car !

warranty's arnt that expensive to but if your really worried

HIRE CAR........VERY GOOD ADVICE..............CHEERS
INTAKE FLAP I THINK NEED CHECKING ON VCDS,DONT KNOW WHAT SYMPTOMS ARE,BUT SOMEONE ON THE FORUM HAS HAD INTAKE PROBLEM,BUT APPARENTLY ITS BEEN RUNNING LIKE THAT FOR OVER 12 MONTHS.
