Hi,

New to the forum. Coming from an B5 S4 Avant, now looking for something better on Fuel and a little more practical.

I know the 1.9 TDI's are pretty rare, but still have the S4 and will only sell once I've found the right car.

First question is what were the model options, Normal, SE, and Sport?

I love the sportier look like this following, is this the normal 'Sport' bodykit, how does one know if it's a sport model, or that a bodykit has been fitted?

Audi19

Also would the wheels above be the Standard ones on the sport model, I've seen them with these and B6 S4 Wheels.

Sorry for the basic questions, had a good read around, just trying to get my head around the options and looking forward to the hunt to find a nice one.

Thanks

Rich

It will specify Sport on the V5 if its a genuine one, it will also be 20mm lower than a standard one and doesn't have to have the GMBH kit fitted to be a sport it was an optional extra. Those are the standard 17" sport wheels, if its a Quattro it should have twin exhausts (one either side)

Many thanks, makes sense and very useful.

If anyone knows of any for sale, or has tips on where to look would be appreciated, I do love the hunt so will set up the usual searches online.

My wish list:

1.9 (though will also consider 2.5)
Avant (has to be)
Black, Silver, Grey, Dark blue.
Leather heated seats
Double Din (for easy RNS-E / aftermarket Upgrade)
Cruise (though i retro fitted easily enough this to my B5)
MFSW (not sure if these were even available?)

FSH and lowish miles of course

Rich

The 1.9tdi Quattro Avant's are a little thin on the ground, I wouldn't be too picky with the spec, if you find a tidy one with low mileage in the right colour just go for it. The extras like RNSe and leather can be retro fitted. Took me long enough just to find one with the colour I was looking for.

Sure, that was a wish list, I enjoy retro fitting stuff.

Condition of car / service history much more important. Certain colours I just can't do apart from that not too fussed.

A MFSW was available on the b6, it was an ugly 4 spoke wheel.
Some have retrofitted a b7 wheel, just be aware there could be airbags problems with the dual stage b7.

I should be on a finder's fee!

Cloth interior, but has GMBh body kit, lowish miles (79k), and in metallic grey for £6,495 from dealer. I've PM'd you the location.

Cheers Spartacus, appreciate the link.

To be honest at 6.5k I would opt for the newer B7 2.0 TDI.

I can't see how even the Quattro could justify the same price as the B7?

The 1.9 TDi's have a great reputation. The early B7 2.0TDi's suffer from oil pump problems and injector issue's.

I've not seen the links so I can't comment, but that's probably why.

Hey,

Thanks, understood.

It's just that 6.5k I'd get dragged into a whole different bunch of options (A3 20 TDI, Golf TDI, B7 A4)

I was hoping to spend up to 4k, do you think this is realistic? I do have access to a mechanic and garage so would probably buy a cheaper car and expect to look after it more rather than buying top end.

Also, thinking about it, I'd be happy with a good B6 1.9TDI FWD, it's all about finding the right car I guess.

1.9 TDi Sports are fetching good money, some people look for months before they find one.

If you read the 'Bumper Options' sticky above it will explain the bodykit options.

Thanks, i did have a look at that thread, lots of different options.

Mycartxtcheck app on the iphone is very usefull, put the reg in and it gives you the whole spec for free :) good luck.

Yeh thats the one dude, iv had the updates done so theyr all the same now. Its good eitherway.

That moment where you find a nice car online, right spec, low miles nice colour....

and then see that it's an Auto :(

Firstly I would prefer an manual.

However mostly because I've read there can be major (expensive) problems with the Auto units, am I wrong about this?

The multitronics can be problematic if not serviced and cared for correctly. The tiptronics are more reliable.

I might part with this for the right price, it's a good spec but i cannot live without quattro ! Mind you though, i have a quattro v6 tdi with a broken cambelt so i might get the 6 speed gearbox/diff and prop swapped to the 1.9 Tdi and keep it for a few years ! Cruise, sports interior, H&R suspension, 312mm brakes, rs4 b7 rear ARB, new clutch and flywheel (Southbend rs4 clutch + TTV SMF), full cambelt kit/water pump/aux. belts, new genuine thermostat + seal, 3 spoke steering wheel, piano black inlays, ESP, 4 electric windows, etc.
Very, very good condition mechanically, brand new BV43 turbo fitted, Allard EGR delete kit and remap, approx 185 Bhp. Goes like stink and still does 600 miles per full tank...

Not done much to it then adam!lol are all the floorpans the same then?

Lovely car Adam, defo out of my price bracket though!

You might be surprised ! To be honest i was thinking that it might be worth 4.5k especially as the clutch on it's own was over a grand, turbo £500, the timing belt kit was only fitted 2 months ago (£250) and there's new rubber all round £400... The car goes really, really well, only snag is i drive very enthusiastically and i found the limits of FWD a few times so i'll either get rid and keep the v6 tdi quattro i also have or convert it to quattro and keep for a while ! I would take a few pictures of the car as it stands now, been in the bodyshop for fixing stone chips on the front bumper and there's a genuine Votex grille fitted to the bonnet so it looks the beezneez ! What this car needs is a set of larger nozzles from Firad +80% and a remap to suit, that would transform it into a fire breathing machine ! Was also thinking of a gtb2260vk turbo if i go for the larger nozzles...

Do you thing stock internals can hold so much bhp with gtb2260vk and firad 80%?

I thing to go with the same routine, but i`m affraid the engine will blow! And to upgrade the internals is to much money and is not worth it.

To be honest i think the pd bottom end will take 250bhp easily without breaking a sweat- i know of a hungarian 1.9 Tdi 1Z VE engine running a gtb2260Vk and custom pump + massive nozzles and the engine is still on original rods ! That passat is driven daily and hard as well ! I would not want more than that from a 1.9 as the pd lump sounds like a sewing machine if you rev it too much. The Firads should easily do 250Bhp if no crazy advance is required and if the engine blows then i would just get a fresh set of Rosten rods and pd 2.0 tdi pistons !
The key is to have a smooth tune without boost spikes and to upgrade the head bolts to ARL 150 head bolts... As i said, not really keen on the pd engines anyway, the power delivery is too short and snappy !

1Z is a much weaker engine like pd 130bhp and they have nothing in common;but this is another conversation.

The far us i know,with gtb2260vk+firads 80% should achieve around 270bhp

Rosten rods, 2,0tdi 8valves piston,turbo,injectors,clutch,custom remap,to name a few....big money,around 4000£,maybe more!:faint:

With my setup i have around 200bhp(BV43+FMIC+custom remap),i don`t thing is worth it for extra 60bhp 4000£.

Btw,what boost presure do you use with bv43?And what rpm you have maximum tourque?

Back to the OP's question, yes you can find a FWD 1.9 TDI Avant for £4k, you will be looking at over 100k miles on the clock though but if it's looked after then this is no problem. I'm on 160k and it's running perfectly..

Let`s face it:is very hard to find a diesel car ho have 10 to 8 years old with unless 100k and especially a4 1,9tdi quattro which they are not so common! To problem is not necessary the mileage, but how it was maintenance and serviced.

I have been searching 4 months till i have find a decent quattro with some goodies.

You pay your money and make your choice. A good B6 1.9 TDi quattro avant is becoming increasingly difficult to find. We're looking at 8-10 year old cars with at least 100k on the clock. The reason there aren't many is because the existing owners love em! :yahoo:

Here's another one... Used Audi A4 Estate 1.9 Tdi 130 Quattro Sport 5dr in Inverness, Highland | Culloden Car Sales

Going to widen my search to consider FWD, also the 2.5 unit too

Also have this 02 avant v6 tdi quattro, fully rebuilt engine with new cambelts, cams, forged rocker arms and INA lifters, lowered sports suspension, grey leather interior, ESP, 4x electric windows, rear spoiler, etc. Only have few pictures of it, mostly during the rebuild !
Bought it as a "spares or repair" with half the engine in the boot. Previous VAG specialist garage chased a non starting issue and took the heads off. Good call as few valves were cracked- replaced the heads with 2 new refurbished ones, full cambelt, thermostat, new drive belts, etc. In Nothing wrong with the car, i was just uploading a new map to the 1.9Tdi hence the jump leads !!!
