So if i was to install some HiD's from the internet it would damage my wiper motor
Just found this, hay guys and girls! i too like many of you have had the dreaded wiper motor not working after fitting a non genuine HID kit to my A3, however it does pay working for an Audi dealer having access to all sorts of wiring diagrams and speeking to a few wizards i guess is the best description for them there is a common shared earth behind the left hand headlight. the wiper motor and the headlights are both earthed on whats known as a spider earth , when you first turn the hid kit on the inital spike of power back feeds through the earth system and as we all know to well blows the wiper motor. the answer to this isint to just fit OEM HID headlights, you can cut the earth wire from the wiper motor and run a new earth from the wipers directly to the battery earth treminal completly bypassing the spider earth completly. i did this to my car last wednesday (3rd Feb 2011) and a week later its still working, i'll let you know if its still working in a weeks time or so, but so far so good! just thought i'd share my findings!
Correct !
Once again can I ask - where is the sticky to help people understand the problem and why was it removed ? Sandra, Voorhees et al could you investigate please ? There are still a lot of queries, mainly from newer forum members, and the sticky was referred to many times.
Thank you
I will have a look for you Mike. x

Yeeee, how much are these "Wiper Motors" ?
About £210 to buy but no idea the cost of fitting !
well I'm not an electronics engineer.. but..
Common ground - The whole car shares a common ground, so just because they share the same ground terminal as the wipers shouldn't make a difference. You could also install a heavy duty Zener Diode into the ground of the wipers. This would prevent a 'back surge'.
Drawing more power - All the new HID kits (in my research) include relays, which the early ones didn't. Basically when you turn on the lights at the stalk the relay on the HID's will connect. The relay is usually directly wired to draw power from somewhere like the positive battery terminal.
also when you have oem xenons the car is coded and knows that it has xenons so supplys the right power, this is not the case with the aftermarket jobbies and before anyone asks you cannot code in aftermarket xenons to the car as the CE module will not be able to talk to it.
What happened to the 'Sticky' about non-OEM HID's blowing wiper motors ?
Hi jojo - it was a thread entitled 'non OED xenons blowing wiper motor' or very similar.
It was put on the A3 8P forum as a sticky and was viewed and contributed to hundreds, if not thousands of times.
I can't remember when it disappeared but must have been before July this year as that was when I asked the question.
I do remember a discussion about how many 'stickies' to have and which to get rid of so maybe admin made a decision.
That link to threads in your post #23 doesn't work !
Still looking for it.
I think it only works on my terminal, sorry.
