Chrome window trims

The chrome trims around the windows are all water marked and I've tried all kinds of detailing products etc but had no joy. I've seen a few cars with black ones are the a genuine part for a rs4 or something, has anyone tried vinyl wrapping or painting them?

if you search through the various forums you will see this is a common problem and that the cost to replace the trim/fittings is prohibitively expensive as the labour involved is quite extensive. Most people put up with it ( like me) or have gone for carbon wrapping which if you read about it seems to be quite an easy and economical fix.
