This is my latest toy I picked up 2 months ago after selling my silver 5 door which was my first car and had been superb over the 4 years I had it. But after wanting one of these for a while it was time for it to move on and be someone elses first car !

I did initially want a dark aubergine one which looks almost black and a lot of Cosworths were this colour, but after looking at a few rotten ones I got fed up and my dad persuaded me to buy an Audi, so I ended up with the 2004 TDi sport last year, which I don't regret buying. On and off I kept looking at RS's again and this one came up on the Ford club forum I am on, went to view it in Yorkshire and left a deposit :)

So it has 97k on the clock and a wad of recipts and stuff dating back to 1996

Resprayed in July by the guy I bought it off, need to get the pictures he took of it during the re-spray. I'ts in the original petrol blue, Cosworths were also this colour

The car still has it's original wheel arches, can even see the spot welds in the picture, the sills are original and mint. Had a couple of minor patches welded on the rear, one on each chassis rail and one on the Nearside front floor pan, I've seen later ones worse off underneath but it's to be expected with the age.

Cobra Alarm with certificate

Tinted rear windows, guessing it used to be tinted all round as I found a ticket given to the owner from Essex Police saying the front windows has failed the "tintman" test . probably stripped it there and then at the side of the A13 London Road !

Magnex stainless steel cat back exhaust

New Ford Headlamps

All the usual RS spec really, Recaro seats, Body kit and spoiler, ABS, Sunroof, Smaller leather steering wheel, it has a DOHC 2.0 Chain driven engine not the Zetec, it's a 16v version of a Sierra engine

The idea is to keep it pretty much original so the number plates were first to come off, so I had a set made up at work and swapped the clear side repeaters for orange ones so it's pretty much standard now.

Fitted my RS Accessory front grille which is the one with the round holes in, for those who don't know they are rare and sought after, although no picture of it but now have the accessory handbrake cover which is just silver basically to match the gearknob along with puma interior handles, which are identical in shape but just silver. So bit of a theme going on there which I think works well.

Tape player went in the bin for the more modern RDS6000 Cd player

The car had minge bag tyes on when i picked it up, so they came off and I fitted a set of nearly new Firestone TZ300 195/50/15 I won on ebay for £101 delivered, and the difference is unbelievable.

1st pic was how it was When I collected it

Thanks, it is pretty much :) he did a good job on the paint, no runs anywere.

I drive it to work maybe once a week and at the weekend maybe as it's just a nice car to drive, but now the ice and grit is here the car will stay parked up mostly. Will be going to the ford based shows at santa pod etc next year, mainly summer use really. From january to april it will probably be on a SORN as it's not worth re taxing it then to drive it in through the crap weather

I have been watching these closely over the last few years for them going up in value but it just doesnt seem to be happening?

Everyone still either wants MK1s MK2s and RS turbo's and cosworths.

Your's is clearly a nice example, good colour, nice spec. I would be tempted to lock it up for another 17 years and see if its worth MK2 money.

I suspect the rare 4x4 version of the RS2000 is a good future classic bet. 1996 MK6 FORD ESCORT RS2000 4WD 4X4 1998cc 16V RADIANT RED 1 OWNER FROM NEW FSH | eBay

They are starting to pick up a little now, one like mine ij it's present state should fetch around £2500 - £3000, I paid £1800 for it so I won't loose anything on it. A good example of a 4x4 I have seen go for £3500 - £4000 mostly, about £6000 for an absolute mint low milage, original bodywork etc. The thing that can put people off the 4x4 is the transfer boxes are weak, but there were only 600 ever made so pretty rare to start with.

The guy who I bought this off paid £500 for it and it was in good overall condition but a little rust scab on the wheel arch and needed the floor welding on the N/S. So some bargains are to be had if you are good at bodywork.

MK1s and 2s go for ridiculous amounts these days, I can only hope mine will fetch £15k one day ! Sierra RS500 Cosworths are going for £30k upwards sometimes :O

didnt the rs2000 not have a different bonnet? with sort of swaged bulges down the sides?

I think that was the pre-1995 facelift version. That bonnet defo looked better with the bulges.

Yes that was he the mk5 rs2000, from 1991 -1993 so the raised bits were were short lived, 1993 to 1995 was known as the mk5b that was when they did away with them, then in 1995 the escort was re designed again to what mine is. should have kept them in the design really as they do look good
