MK20 ABS Controller - Soft Coding

Cool. I brought my laptop and vcds cable to work today so I'll have a play at lunchtime :)

No joy.

Tried all the codes posted earlier but whenever I click "Do-It!", it just goes back to the main ABS block screen and the soft code remains at 00214.

I'm working on that :ninja:

Well the chap I know who works at VW had a look around the VW systems today to try and find any information about this but has hit a brick wall.

In the mean time I've contacted Ross Tech and also Niki from R-Tech to see if they have any ideas.

For completeness here's 00214

00 214 = 0b000000011010110

Who know's what all this cr*p means.

Liam

Thanks Liam.

It seems the MK60 guys can subtract 2048 (ESP bit) from their original codes to remove just ESP.

My number seems so bloomin low to start with subtracting anything doesn't really seem like an option.

mine is mk20 and the 2048 code works just don't understand why yours is so low.

Halfway down the page there are some options.

Cheers Liam, I stumbled across that as well.

Here is the first reply I've had from Ross Tech.

"Based on the component field of this Mk20 ABS controller it appears to be a module specific to ESP and it is extremely unlikely that any conventional scan tool operation (coding or adaptation) modifications are going to have the desired results. Please send the complete Auto-Scan from this vehicle with the VIN for review."

Update from Ross Tech

"Although it may not be correct, the PR codes per VIN and online parts management services of PartsLink24 show a MK60 ESP (1AT) ABS configuration for this vehicle. Was that Mk20 ABS module original equipment?

In regards to the coding possibilities you may have more luck using repair information for the M.Y. 2000 Audi 8L1 (I used AMK/DQB details). That particular vehicle model appears to use several Mk20 and Mk60 variants with coding charts.

In conclusion this module is ESP specific, and although I suspect it may not be the correct one, it cannot be modified using VCDS to remove ESP functions."

I've asked for the repair information for the M.Y. 2000 Audi 8L1 that she mentions.

What would happen if I fitted a Mk60 controller to my car?

How did you get on Westy?

Works really well. Tam also did back to back tests comparing it with using the button and it does seem to only disable the ESP and nothing else. Reesy said he thought his car was really lively and thought it must disable more then just esp. I'm just glad I don't have to hit the button every time I te in the car ;)

That's good to hear.

Rub it in why don't you :)

Update from Ross Tech.

"The other modules used in Mk20 and Mk60 systems aren't usually compatible with each other but I do not have any personal experience with that particular retrofit.

If this is for track/off road only I would personally consider experimenting with some non ESP Mk20 modules and see if they behave with the engine management system so you have normal braking. As you likely know, vehicles without the old-school proportioning valve in the rear axle need the ABS module for base/safety functions of brake fluid proportioning so you cannot simply unplug the ABS module.

We are not able to provide repair information including for example coding charts, wiring diagrams, component location schematics or TPI/TSBs which are copyrighted material belonging to VW/Audi. The Official Factory Repair Information sources are listed here:

Official Factory Repair Information - Ross-Tech Wiki

Subscription based parts management information is available through PL24 and linked here with our PR code explanation:

Production Codes (PR-Codes) can be found on the Vehicle Data Label - Ross-Tech Wiki

It looks like I failed to note previously that you can edit the AutoScan.txt file to eliminate modules that aren't installed. This file is located in the VCDS directory when looking manually and also linked from the Auto-Scan function screen. This is briefly mentioned on the following page:

Ross-Tech: VCDS Tour: Auto-Scan"

Did you try the 00016 code to switch off EDL as well as the esp? Not that i too sure it that is a good thing of a bad thing.

I tried it once but couldn't tell much of a difference

Hi all,
I'm looking for the login code for coding my abs module on a TT 225 Quattro equipped with mk20 module.
I know the 18446 coding but I still have a "module not coded" alarm. The 40168 login doesn't act.
Could someone help me? Thanks!

Here is my info
You're login is supplied with your books

4 digit code

If you don't have this code there are other ways to retrieve it but you need an OBD cable and software to get the SKC login

Unfortunately I don't have the book.
I have an cable with vcds, is it useful?

sorry to revive an old thread. if i disable the ESP using my original code minus 2048 will it throw a light on the dash?

also how can i get the login code? i'm using a abs module from another car so the code in my book doesnt work.
