Osram Nightbreaker Plus H7's - Rant

So i decided to upgrade my H7's, i wanted whiter & brighter light without getting HID's and blowing my wiper motor. I was in two minds as to whether to get Philips Diamond Vision, or the Osrams.. i was encouraged to get the Osrams by various members of the forum, and to sum it up in one word.. Unhappy..
I have just fitted them & taking into account the fact that its 11am, they still look no whiter than my halogens.. And actually, they look to me like brighter halogens..
Which is the complete opposite of what I wanted, seeing as I hate halogens.
I guess the dark will be the decider, so I can see how they really look.. But so far, not too impressed.

I will get some pictures up so you can voice your opinions later, thanks.
 
Everyone goes by names these days.
Go for Osrams, go for Philips, go for Ring and so on.

If you want a brighter bulb, choose a higher wattage.
But when they're to white they don't seem to travel down the road as far.

I just wanted whiter, aha. Wasn't even too fussed about how bright they are!

Actually mate I think they're around 3400k.. I didnt see the option to up the K, else i would've. My old HID's were 6000k and perfect IMO.

You can't just uprate the wattage - you'll end up blowing fuses or worst melting wiring
 
Speak to t8ups his bulbs are awesome and cheaper than the branded ones!!

Okay mate thankyou. I'm waiting on getting my sidelights in, I can't get my fat hands in there without removing the bumper so ill do it when I get round to it. Hopefully they're more white than the H7's, but I have PM'd him regarding number plate LED's and new H7's.. May look into fogs but I'm unsure of how to fit them!

Fogs were the easiest on mine, pull off the plastic surrounds and you'll need a torx screwdriver just undo the screws and unclip the wire and you see how easy it is to take the casing apart lights in job done. Mines a 2005 so not sure if yours is different.

Number plates were a pig but there is a knack to it best to do it with the sidelights on and no key in the ignition that stops you getting a dis error while you fiddle getting the connectors in the right place.

And it's illegal to run more than 55 watt bulbs. Loads of prats do, mainly Golf GTi's and ****** taxi drivers in my area !!

Boon is dead right - all the car wiring is designed for the correctly rated equipment so any additional load and you risk a fire, especially if the fuse rating has been changed !

Very interesting ! Do you know why many higher wattage bulbs are marketed with a clear label saying 'not legal for road use in the uk'

Is it the colour temperature restriction ?

I know, and the high powered ones are usually advertised 'for off-road use only'!

I might dig deeper....

I agree. Not a fan of these superbright bulbs myself. I know someone who has 100w fogs & 80w headlights!! Just stupidly blinding and he got the 80w bulbs from the super sensible halfords.

Tell him to go to a garage and have it adjusted. My local garage charges a tenner for changing the bulbs and checking the beam pattern using the equipment they use for MOT.

Agreed! Definitely take this into account, they do look good though ;)

Bulbs arrived.. Honestly, I'm unhappy. They're not even as bright as my Osrams & they're more yellow.
T8ups on the other hand is great and couldn't recommend him more.

But having experienced both his bulbs and Osrams, Osrams are the ones to get. Although having said that, I'm still tempted to try the Philips Diamond Vision Ultra's.. Hm
 
audi upgrades
Some bulbs are off road use only as they actually give worse performance (less projection) and more glare, or the glare to projection ratio is way of kilter. Just because a bulb has a higher wattage doesn't mean it's better or necessarily brighter (in a way that's useful).

Grand total of £7 and just as good as these premium brand jobs which I have tried in the past.
