Strut Braces & 4motions

I have a Bora 4motion with the following handling upgrades: -

H&R V1 Twin Tube Coilovers
S3 Cast Wishbones
Every bush replaced with Superpro/Powerflex bushes
R32 Front ARB
Neuspeed Rear ARB
1x Pair of Forge Adjustable Tie Arms (Upper)

I think the car handles very well, it sits very flat round corners and is also surprisingly comfortable considering the modifications.

I know the S3 8L comes with a lower strut brace as standard but the Bora 4motion does not.

Would front (upper/lower) or rear strut braces contribute anything to this setup? The car is used as a daily but I would like to attend the odd track day when I get the time.

The upper strut would help but the lower one doesn't really do anything, yes you could make a lower strut brace which i did and couldn't really tell but as soon as i fitted some solid sub frame bushes then you could feel the front end stiffen up and make the steering a little sharper

034 Motorsport Audi 8L/VW MK4 front soild subframe bushings

Your sub frame is like a strut brace, just fit the solid mounts in the link above and all will be good

A strut brace is meant to brace the struts at the top, there is now way you can fit one to the rear of the S3

as andrew said, those braces dont brace anything lol.
i think on a modern car there is V little to be had by strut braces, our cars are well built enough not to have masses of flex

Oki doki, ive already got the solid frame bushes fitted, love them, fitted them a while ago.

So...

Solid subframe bushes = Yes
Strut braces = money that could be spent on solid subframe bushes (although upper front might be worthwhile)

Solid subframe bushes for the win

The standard S3 lower brace can be bent by hand so if i can do that then its not much good under the car

Depends on what plane it's meant to act as a brace: tension or compression? if it's tension you could theoretically use a steel cable which would be very flexible in every way except under tension.

But is was taken off later models/not put on all models and is extra weight. Who know's whether it's worth it.
