Should it be permanently attached to the dipstick or to the tube?

Mines a really tight fit on the stick so stays on the stick, pushes onto the tube and comes off with the stick, worried its not on right and want to make sure my dipstick readings are correct.

It stays a attached to the engine so the dipstick pulls out, but r prone to breaking due to becoming brittle only about £7 from eBay or dealers

This is a replacement, cant get it to push onto the tube and its mega tight on the stick so sticks to that

Genuine or pattern part? Sure you got the right one, does it look like the one that came off?

It clips onto a tube lower down that the dipstick goes thought and onto two metal prongs at the top, mine needed a bit of fiddling as the prongs weren't quite in the right place

facelifts have the metal prong arrangement.

PFL just have a plastic bit that pushes onto the metal tube.

Either way, it should stay attached to the metal tube.

Just double checked, mines a tube (obv) with a lip about 13mm down it, thats it.

Just looked, cant see a bracket on the side of the manifold, and it looks like if the tube were as long as the one above it would foul the bonnet.
