Hi everyone,

I’m not sure if this has been covered before. I have spent many hours reading various threads trying to find an answer to my problem but haven't, so thought I would start a thread and see if anyone knows the answer to a problem I have with retro fitting 2012 Audi A1 mfsw on my 2009 A3.

I know this is the latest generation MFSW steering wheel used on the new A3, A5 etc as well with MMI.

I have RNS-E 192S unit fitted, my steering control module is 8p0953549k. This works perfectly with the standard MFSW wheel.

The Audi A1 MFSW use’s different pin connector for the MFSW. I swapped this over to the same connector as my existing A3 MFSW. Pin’s in the same location.

The issue I have the buttons on the wheel are lit constantly but don't work

Pin out I ave assumed are.

1 – LIN
2 – 12v
3 – GND

Any help will be appreciated. I know there are quite a few retrofit guru’s that may shed light on this issue. Does anyone have any wiring diagrams as the next step would be to start metering things out I suppose.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/help.

Hi Dan,

Im actually in the middle of doing this myself, but have come to a complete stall.

You're correct in that:

Pin 1: Data
Pin 2: +12v
Pin 3: GND

Bare in mind that we cant change any of the pins in the slipring plug as this would alter what the car receives, which we obviously cannot change.

I tested the continuity on Pin 3 to confirm the ground which leaves only Pin 1 and 2.

Ive tried both combination in my 2007 A3 running a 'F' module, with no luck.. I dont even have lights on the wheel at all!

My theory is that its purely incompatible, cant really think of any other solution...

N8 has the new S5 wheel in his, but the extra buttons are not functional as the car will not recognise it. i think your better off just putting in one of the chunky flat bottom RS wheels, much nicer and still fully functional

Thank you for the replies,

Ash187 do you think N8 will share the details of the pin outs of the MFSW connector. Good to find out if my A1 wheel is compatible.

I do agreed the RS FBMFSW are much nicer. I managed to the A1 wheel for a good price, is like new.

they will be cheap cause they are standard, there will be plenty out there

does that mean all the A1 have a MFSW as standard, I know its not FBMFSW, nice looking steering wheel.

Good to get it working on the A3, cheap upgrade

The newer buttons are redundant, but all the original functions still work...I disagree about being nicer, the new wheel is far nicer in terms of feel and apperance

You will still need the appropriate steering module to make it work.

do you have any part numbers of the steering module needed?

:hubbahubba: N8 did you change the steering control module and did you rewire the mfsw connector?

I know you have to rewire the airbag connector to match the A3 one.

I would be grateful for your input

Thank you in advance

I think revision K also works but couldn't swear to it.

Also bear in mind that another module ref 1K0 953 549 F will NOT work as it is only mid-line and the mfsw requires a high-line module.

Cheers Mike, my steering wheel module is 8P0 953 549K, my A3 came with MFSW as well. Searching the forum NHN say "it supports all features, but K will not support pre 09 cars"

Looking at N8 picture of the steering wheel and my A1. The A1 has more buttons on it. Audi in the wisdom may have decided to change the data speed (LIN) to the control module.

Would be great if we could make a list of the various steering wheels that are compatible with the A3

NHN is the man ! Didn't realise you already had a mfsw - if you have rev K and a post 2009 A1 wheel the presumably you will be ok ?

I think the difference is to do with the steering angle sensor on the later models not being in the slip ring (or something like that ) and presumably rev K allows for the update.

Hello i have the same problem with m'y Audi A4 8k , with steering wheel 2012 sline.
Hâve you find à solution for it

Please help me

Thank you

Lol Ash, heard you say that a couple of times... You are SO lucky to have found the 'chunky' RS model FBMFSW!
I can't find one anywhere, plus it has to be lifted from an RS3 because i need the paddles! Very rare and expensive

Hey i know the post is old but has anyone found an answer if the 2012 a1 steering wheel buttons will work or not? (Btw i have a audi a4 B8)
