WAs wondering if anyone has coverted there s3 8p to run rs3 motor or is it not possible? i wish they had built a 3 dr version

It's certainly possible, but would probably be cheaper to just buy and RS3 and put up with the extra doors.

would of thought an engine change wouldnt be too bad! and not have to worry about rear doors

Kinda hard to justify the extra cost for 1 more cylinder & suspension tweaks....

Plus you'd have to change the front wings for the wider track, front bumper for the intercoolers, it probably has a bespoke DSG gearbox and after doing the job and costing probably around £5k - £8k to do properly you could just buy a proper RS3 that will always be worth RS3 money because an S3 with an RS3 engine in it is just that... An S3!

its 100% possible but tying to source bits in reasonable money is hard, the only bit you couldnt be sure of is would the 6 speed manual gearbox fit in the bay with the 5 cylinder. without inner wing mods id doubt it, thats before you start thinking of all the hub changes wing changes archliner changes and then what to do with the rear arches

i will be doing it eventually but just gotta wait till the ttrs and rs3 are a little less new

The tt rs isnt that much wider is it? That runs the 6 speed

Ibis S3 with TTRS engine & manual box :)

Correct number of doors & correct gearbox = win!!

Considering bare 2.5 engines if you can find one are fetching up to 10k it makes the whole thing a bit pointless when you add in the other mods required plus tuning the thing.

£10k would get you a very quick S3.

The 2.0 is good for 600bhp or thereabouts and virtually ALL of the tuners are having trouble getting the 2.5 to run much more than 500 currently due to a host of issues.

admittedly i long for the 2.5 tfsi noise though im going to have it one day but im not paying more than 5k for the engine

Or you could keep your pound and use most of it to make a convincing RS3 replica like THIS
Audi A3 2.0 TDI Sports 3 Doors Modified ECU remapped Body Kit Alloys tint 175BHP | eBay

What an abortion! Genuine leather??? Looks more like a few bin liners have been used there!

I bought a brand new S3 3dr 6 months ago, I wanted the RS3 really but the 5 doors put me off... How wrong I was, 6 months on and I have traded the S3 in for an RS3, lost loads of cash in the process but hey ho...

To me, the 5 door seems like a more modern car, maybe it is the novelty of 5 doors or possibly even just the rear light cluster. Who knows.. one thing is for sure though, the engine more than makes up for the extra 2 doors. I was completely wrong about not liking the sportback, and that's not just because I have one now ;)

I would love to see an S3 3dr with a 2.5 TFSI an DSG7 in it though, that would be very cool :)

I honestly think a 3dr 8p with the 5 cylinder in it would be really nice and wished audi had done it, i was only wondering if it had been done i know its expensive to do but alot of people around do mods to cars that cost alot its not a matter of the power its having a 3dr car thats nice with the sound of the original audi 5 cylinder too. I would love a suzuka grey s3 8p with the noise of the rs3 and no engine mods.
Someone might of got a front end damged one at some point and needed an engine and just decided to go mental and do it thats all. There will be one some day somewhere:o.k:

I don't know what possessed Audi to make it a 5door only but they clearly thought it was best.

I might well have bought a 3 door RS3 but I wouldn't change now even for the sound.

Just seemed odd didn't it.

The gearbox is great and so easy to use and I think the only drawback is the cost of the clutch upgrade if you go for big power levels.

As to 5 doors.... It just put me off.

yeah the 5 doors was the straw that broke the horses back

so **** it ill build my own

SB only RS3 was meant to hold on to the heritage of the B5 and now again the B8 RS4s being Avants. Not sure why the B7 and both RS6s were OK though... and where does that leave the TT-RS?

I think they just wanted to make it more exclusive, and didn't want to waste money having to develop 2 body styles of it.

I think that has to be the answer.

I should know this really, but does the sportback have a longer wheelbase? Cos that may be a reason y

If I HAD to I could convert to DSG but not the Estate(I mean sportback)
Even if I had kids I'd struggle to justify a 5dr 8P.
