Hi all,

Has anyone bought a replacement mirror glass from eBay?

Was the quality ok?

Or am I just better off going to Audi and buying one from there?

TIA,

Alan

I have read that a few people have bought them and they don't work!

I picked up 2 genuine Audi ones , used, on eBay for about 20 quid from memory. I don't like using non genuine stuff.

Not a fan of non genuine stuff myself either, I've just retrofitted heated ones to mine, the first to make sure it would work was a gen one, then bought a non gen off ebay for the drivers side, advertised as oem quality, it fits and works but is nowhere near oem quality, but was a quarter of the price... you get what you pay for, you'd probably never notice but theres little differences

No not checked at the stealers

But why don't you remove a mirror and see if you have power!

Just out off curiosity any one priced new ones from the stealers ?
my two are not working . am currantly trying to get someone with a VAG COM/VCDS to plug it in to see if it is them or a relay etc!

i haven't checked either. Perhaps a quick call to the parts dept. in the morning....

Point the glass down to the floor, put your fingertips behind the glass through the gap at the top, and pull back firmly but gently. Be careful and you'll be ok.

About £30 for the nearside and £50 for the offside, gits.....

Go humour me mate as my finger is on the "Buy Now" button on fleabay for the same ones you bought. Cheap as chips but I'm a wild fussy fecker and by the sounds of it you are too. What do you notice? Does the glass at least have a tint just like the OEM version or is it plain glass?

I'm not a fan of spurious parts either, but at £50 each from the stealers, it'll be eBay all the way for me......

Hard to put a finger on it, it has the chrome look, just not as classy as the genuine one. The lines that separate the blind spot are different, and there is a "tongue" missing from the back, not sure of its purpose - maybe anti vibration or guide - but ze Germans put it there for a reason... but it works and heats up, and is a shed load cheaper, I'll probably end up buying a genuine one tho...

A little late on the reply, but the mirrors get power directly from the door control module, via a pair of black wires from memory. They are turned on via can-bus, when the rear demist is on and below a certain temp, mine worked at 13degC..
That said my drivers one won't heat up, I've yet to take the door card off and check the wiring, theres a problem somewhere..

Lol yeah I see what you're saying and I'd a bought them from fleabay only demus has put me off now. I'm wild fussy you've no idea and even the line on the driver's side being different would cause me sleepless nights lol.

But I'll tell you what they aren't half handy to have especially at this time of the year.

I'm officially deliberating because I've just bought the thing and am getting some bodywork done and a new drivers window regulator fitted. Was going to go second hand on the regulator but the bodywork guy advised me against it because they are a common fault. £110 for the regulator from the stealers though :( then say another £100 for heated mirrors hmmmm might need to hold out for a bit.

Just bought two heated mirrors today from my local GSF store. Got them for £16 =VAT each though the passenger one is ordered in they had the drivers one. Fitted in dead easy but didn't heat up with the rear demister on - though I think the outside temperature has to be below 7 if I'm not mistaken? Gonna try again later this evening.

Oh PS: The drivers one from GSF was practicaly identical to the OEM version. No noticable differences!

OK, update: It's official - I approve of the GSF mirror glass. Looks the same, acts the same, heats up and it costs under £20.

Quick update from me ,
Very nice man (eddie) Vag com'd my car and nothing about door mirrors , now am still debating about pulling of mirrors in case i break !
but will probably have to and run a volt meter to wiring .
One of the things eddie mentioned is that it might NOT have heated mirrors??????
every Audi i have had has heated mirrors but he says some dont ??? anyone came across this ?
at £20 from GSF thats ok , at £110 from Audi there are being silly buggers , altho i remeber my mate having to pay £90 for a O/S mirror for his scooby after some toerag throu a brick at the glass window and it bounced back and hit the mirror !

Easiest way to remove mirror glasses without breaking them is 2x cable ties put them around either side of the glass and then pull together the glasses will just pop off with no issues, the wiring can be traced back through the door harness and then check voltage and the block connector as wellas well

I too was worried in case I broke the mirror glass taking it out but it turned out relatively easy.

The easiest way that I found to remove the mirror was to tilt it as far down to the ground as possible and get my fingers into the gap at the top left hand side of the drivers side glass (top right hand side of the passenger side) and prise it out firmly but not harshly. Apply a touch of common sense and it will lterally just pop out.

Get them fitted and let me know how you get on.

My old dear has had me re-decorating her bathroom since the weekend. It'll probably be Friday or Saturday before I get chance to go and fetch one now....

I'm hoping to pick up the passenger side one tomorrow from GSF then I can try them both out :)

i fitted a genuine left hand drive heated mirror to my passenger side as it has the blind spot piece on so meaning ive the blindspot piece on both mirrors.

Update: Picked up the passenger side one from GSF, fitted it and heated that baby up. All good in the hood!

Back to this said mirror, boy are there quality differences, first off the pratting thing is one curve across it surface, instead of being flat and curving to the blind spot! makes you feel sick and is a sh!t to reverse with. To top that, got in, shut the door yesterday and the thing fell out..

I had an ebay one for my S3 and it was fine. Had the light blue tint the S3 mirrors had plus the blind spot curve and it worked perfectly for the remaining winter period I had the car for. I guess you get what you pay for, find the cheapest one shipped from Hong Kong and it will be cheese, be a bit picky and I have no doubt you can get one cheaper than a stealer and GSF/ECP. That said GSF seem to have gone downhill on quality lately. ECP have so many offer codes on their site recently too it makes them worth trying.

Yeh I did consider GSF, the ones on ebay I saw all seemed to be from this seller, and not much else.....ECP are about £32 at the mo and say OE quality..
