Hi all,

Looking for some help here, tried a search but i think i need things explained more clearly. I'm a complete noob when it comes to mods.

Im looking to get some new alloys and just wondering if they will fit my car without having to do anything i.e just a straight swap.

My car is a 2006 A3 2.0T Sport. It currently has the standard sport alloys on it.

Specs for the alloys i want:

Size 18", Width 8.5j, Offset 38 to 48.

All this doesnt really mean much to me, if someone could please let me know if these will fit i'd be very appreciative.

If you go on 1010tires.com it calculates how much inner clearance and the outer position.

I have 8.5J alloys on my A3 and they fit perfectly, not sure of the offset though as it isn't stamped on!

All i know is having an offset closer to 38 will be best for your inner clearance.

Thanks for your input. The website says they will fit my car but thought i'd better get some insight on here. It comes with a fitting kit so i guess thats the reason why it has on off set of 38-48?

Ill have a look at that website and see what it says but as i mentioned this is all like looking at another language to me :/
 
The fitting kits normally only consist of nuts and maybe spigot rings.

If you find a set of alloys you want just type the details into the website, inner clearance is basically just how close it sits to your suspension etc... and outer position is how far it will stick out of your arches. My tyres have a bit of stretch on to keep the tread under the arch :thumbsup:
 
Found the alloys i want just have no idea where to input the details on that website to check them?
 
Type 1010tires into google. The first option on the page is the site you want. Find the offset calculator and type the details into there mate.
 
Many thanks for that, found it now.

It says inner clearance '8mm LESS' and outer clearance 'EXTEND an extra 18mm'.

I really hope this means something to you? My apologies for being a useless tit, your help is much appreciated.
 
It means the inside of your wheel will be 8mm closer to the inner arch and will be 18mm further out at the front than your original wheels. If you know what i mean?

P.S thats if i understand it correctly. Ask N8 on here, as far as i'm aware he is the wheel Guru :thumbsup:
 
I've got 19x8.5 ET48 on mine and the fit fine, anywhere lower than 40-ish will possibly rub on the arch. Go for the ET48 and you'll be fine.

Ok going to hi jack my own thread here a bit and move on to a new question. The alloys im looking at getting are pretty damn cheap (compared to what ive seen others go for), having no experience here i have no idea if there is such a thing as a good or bad alloys?

Can anyone give me any pointers? Is a cheap set of rims going to drastically affect the way the car rides/drives etc?
 
I'm not speaking from experience but from what i have heard....

If you buy Replicas they tend not to last or be as strong as genuine alloys and can buckle easier. My alloys are reps but so far so good...

If you have the money for genuine than thats the best way to go.

What alloys do you have in mind?

The alloys i saw where called Rial Roma, unfortunately i couldnt find any reviews on them (probably a bad sign).

When you say they can buckle easier are you talking about a hard hit like if i bumped a kerb while driving or even something as simple as a bumpy/pot holey road?

I have no money, just a credit card and a need to mod haha

Jarazzle - Cant see a weight listed for them

I've never heard or seen them alloys before so cant really give an opinion mate so its up to you.

According to other people they are more likely to buckle if you hit a pot hole or kerb but im sure any alloy will be damaged if you hit them hard enough. I think reps are just manufactured on a larger scale so maybe cheaper materials are used and lack the care and attention of genuine ones.

If youre not going drifting or offroading reps will be fine, just take care of them like any set of alloy.

(I dont really think i've helped you much but ive never had trouble with my alloys, genuine or not!)

Hopefully they'll be ok just wondering about the weight issue that jarazzle mentioned now.

Yea wheelbase is where i found them, thought about giving them a ring but suspected they'd tell you whatever you wanted to hear if it got a sale out of you.

I think ill just take the plunge as imho they are an excellent look, think the graphite would suit my colour car as well. Lets hope they work out. Just gotta sort some tyres as well.
 
i have 19x8.5 et42 which are perfectly fine on my car even though i have lowered it on Eibach sportlines. anything lower than et42 is a no no.
also it matters what size tyres you get... if you are getting 18s then get a 225/40/18 tyre and you shouldnt have any issues
 
sorry after throwing that out I can't find any details either! maybe someone could check if weight is detailed in ETKA?
 
Thats a shame, well i spoke to the people and they said the wheels are 13kg a piece. I have no idea if that's good or bad for a wheel.
