Ouch, looks expensive. Easily done, and at least it can be mended. Take it all occupants are OK.

my mac just crashed, so my post was cut short, so here goes..

the car came back from the body shop. all was good but the S3 black optics grill was not replaced, so decided to see what was out there. dont get me wrong the black optics does look good. So with a look on ebay.de i found this up for auction

i put in a straight cash offer and the deal was done. got it for a great price as well
so i fitted i yesterday and gave the car a quick wash today, the end result i'm more than happy with

Nice one, new grill looks great. And you took RS badge off too so top marks!

Looks great Rob, now get that plate straight :)

side skirts are now a must !

Looks lovely rob was it a straight fit? Also would look lovely sprayed black

yep, no hassle at all. just had to swap over the surrounds, as the RS3 had been carbon wrapped and i preferred the gloss black of the BE grill

Good to hear you got it all sorted out.....I've always loved the RS grille.....looks lovely !

That a massive improvement over what it looked like before!
1 question though, from the pictures it doesn't look like you have the OEM plate holder so how have you got that plate attached to the grill?

Looks pretty good now, nice work! Amazing what damage is done at low speeds, but that's the safety design so understandable and as seen, can all be tidied up when it's a low speed accident. You'd never know to look at it now.

rOb_A, interested in selling that S3 front grill badge? Mine's got a stone chip out of the red square and if it's mint I'd have it off you for a couple of quid...

yep its mint lad, its never seen the road. drop me a pm and we'll sort something out for the badge

How did you attach the plate to the grille rob? I was trying to dream up a way of having to not use a plate holder and you seem to have managed it!

Looking good Rob lad. You now need the 300bhp lump under the bonnet. Safe driving now and no racing old ladies in minis ok. :racer:

i wish lad. 140tdi......rapid! who needs more

Thought i'd got away with a big strip of velcro but rain has got behind and today a tried it just to make sure. low and behold it was starting to come loose, so i took the pressed plate off and zip tied a normal plate on. so back to the drawing board and my have to go down the plate holder route, unless someone has got another idea??

Is it possible to trim the plate holder so that you can't see it surrounding the plate? Then rather than clipping it into place just sticking it with pads?

yep my mate came up with that idea but i did'nt listen  as there is not enough surface area for the velco to stick to and can get water behind the glue.
I could use some plastic/perspex, trimmed so its smaller than the plate, counter sink the holes and and bolt to the grill. then a big strip of velcro again (this worked on my S3 plate, with no problems). I just don't want the plate to stick out off the grill too much.

is the consensus that plate holder don't look too good??

I prefer it without the plate holder. similar with the S3 grills - id prefer not to have the plate holder across the middle as i think it ruins the grille hence why I'd been thinking about it!

i think i may have a go at making something up. If that fails, i look at the plate holder route.
watch this space :salute:
