Hi guys,

Just had a service carried out on my TDI as I just bought it and for peace of mind. There was no service light showing as I say I just did it to keep myself right. What I need to know is how to reset the service interval so it notifys me when next service is due?

Thanks

There will be a procedure in your owners manual for reset without vcds.

It's a simple combination of holding down a couple of buttons, do a quick search on the net and you'll find the answer.

Hold down the spanner then turn the ignition on while still holding it down and then press the 00 to reset it job done

im having the same problem and i believe it depends on if its set to long life or not,one you can do with the buttons on the dash the other has to connect to vagcom, mine would have to be the latter!

If you reset the service light on the dash the car will be set to time and distance servicing (10k or 1 year) even if it's on longlife it will reset to time and distance

If you have longlife it needs to be reset with VAG-com to still be on longlife services.

does that mean i can reset mine on the dash without vag com even though its on longlife as ive tried resetting it and im still getting the service reminder, maybe im not pressing the right buttons, what do you have to press?

You don't want 'long life' service interval anyway, it's a load of pish, short/10k interval should be the norm.

Done.

So if I'm reading this thread right it automatically sets itself for the appropiate service according to miles on the clock?

ta da!
done it,after watching a youtube video and reading a comment from somone who was doing the same as me and getting nothing i did what they did by holding both buttons down instead of one than the other and straight away i got the service display with all the blank lines but will it be set to 10k miles now before it lets me know again or do i have to manually adjust the service mileage for when it comes back on?

Well this is kind of my question too mate. Now I read somewhere that service display will remain blank for around 500km at which stage it will show the mileage/time for next service. Don't hold me to that though I could have read it wrongly.

press one of the buttons shortly after starting the car (not the trip reset) and the reminder distance should show up. at least thats how to see it on my car.

Its the button with a spanner on it.

Yeah but after resetting the service interval it stays blank for a while. That's what i read somewhere anyhow must check my own tomorrow again to see if it is now displaying mileage.

i reset mine the other day after reading this thread and its still showing blank lines now but i dont reallly care as im happy with the annoying service warning gone!
i service it as and when i feel now!
