What have you done today?

Almost done with my one din(preface) to two din(facelift) conversion on my 97 2.8 5-speed Quattro. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1349758714685531ImageUploadedByTapatalk1349758747209012

OOPS wrong section.....duh!!!

Its ok.
8P people can post in here if its interesting enough. :)
I've finished another barrel of home-brew beer - but have another 40 pints ready to replace it.............. :beerchug:

if that doesn't count, I've freed off my saloons' sticking calipers - AGAIN!

Is it any good?
Does it ship well? :)

Nice.
I like double din. Wish I did it sooner.
Yours looks a bit different to mine.
Are you using the PFL AC panel and a PFL hazard switch?
I did not think it fitted.

They dont fit, which is why his upper trim is missing and the lower console has a huge hole in it!

I can see that.
I was wondering if he was going to try and make it fit?
It wont work very well if he did cause the little sensor for the PFL HVAC is not built in to the unit like it is in the FL units.

At least he got a proper PFL DD head unit :(

Over the last few weekends I've
Painted two sets of alloys
Fitted s4 skirts and bumper
Fitted rns-d
Poly bushed front end
Fitted new rear arb and brackets
Fitted funk button (for when I add DVD to rnsd)
Fitted black vue camera
Wrapped grill

Just an oil change, new tyres to be fitted and a good clean and I'm ready for adi

I want to talk to you about the RNS-d, you going to be at ADI?

Where did you fit your camera and the wiring?
I'm still unsure on mine.

Scott yes ill be at adi
The rnsd is a bit rubbish as a sat nav but couldn't resist for £100 on eBay
Was going to ask if you got any further with the facelift cluster as you can't get info in dis on the earlier ones

Cameras mounted behind mirror with wiring tucked into cover for auto dimming wiring then plugged into a 12 volt socket i added in glovebox

Not got any further yet.
I need to sort out a AFN sump with oil sensor hole and get my Rev counter working.
Then I can push forward a bit.

I need to get a new centre console surround and start looking in to RNS-d/e units for mine.
I'm not liking this Clarion unit much at all.

Same place as mine.
Just need to wire it into the glovebox area.
With I had a auto dimming mirror.

Whats the deal with the camera, forward facing? Whats it for?

Scott won his camera in a competition we ran a few weeks back and by all accounts he's loving it :)

Its basically an In-Car camera that has become very very popular over the last few months. Records your driving and others, so if there is an accident you can see what happen. If you can prove it wasn't your fault then you save you're excess and NCB.

We are running a group buy here -> http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/group-...witness-track-day-protection.html#post1688324

It also has lots more info about the camera :)

need to get it under the lip of the roof so the sun doesnt screw with the pictures

looks great, I fancy one of those except can imagine it would incriminate me some of the time!!

That's 4 different locations. I've been trying to find which location works best for me.
Still playing.

it is usually quite good when it comes to the sun, it flicks something over and changed the settings so it doesn't get flooded with sun light.

In regards to it becoming incriminating, it's very quick and easy to pull out the micro SD card and either swallow or throw away. Not that I would ever condone "Very Active" driving :p

I have my camera fitted out behind my rear view mirror on my A3 and looks good. When I'm back home il pop up a pic of one in a friends TT.

no emergency rations? that's risking it a bit. :ninja:

Today I made a list of what I need to do this weekend.

Relocate GPS aerial.
Wire in the TMC.
Wire in the tuner with AV inputs.
Wire in my 3rd 12v socket.
Take a look at the pinout on my ECU for the facelift clocks.
Clean the car.

Nicely done paul.
You expecting a bad winter or is this a normal kit for you?

No, that's pretty standard for us.

Problem is if it snows when we're at work, it can be a mile trek up the drive through a few feet of snow - and depending on shifts, there may be nobody at home or it is stupid o'clock in the morning so it can get a bit tricky!

no emergency rations? that's risking it a bit. :ninja:

I was winterising the car - there's always a couple of pork pies laying around in my cars, come rain, snow or shine!!

Oh, another thing I've done today is finally learnt how to multi-quote posts!

Look good where abouts did you get them done if you dont mind me asking?
I got it done local to me but paid too much and it isnt the best job in the world either so wont be recommending them.

Well nothing major today just put two nearly new continental sport contact 3 tyres with mostly 7mm of tread that i got for nowt on the front to replace the crap maxxis that have worn the inners down to the cords due to my knacker'd control arms that will be getting done next weekend oh and swapped tyres front to rear to keep the grip at the rear as its getting quite frosty here and so the arms dont were out the conti's so the pirellis pzero assy's have gone on the front as theres 3-4mm left on them.

As i was balancing my wheels one of my centre caps decided to throw the araldited clip off again been to a couple of breakers nothing as i want to replace them with newer style ones (plastic) but they seam to small anyone found any replacements for the bolero ones which i think are 62mm face rather than 60mm. Also what size in width are standard TQS rims as i heard there are wider ones i have 8j's fitted ??

and finally i called in to topgear stockport as i heard they are pretty good at exhaust systems and fairly reasonably Priced so i got a quote for a 3" cat back system with twin rolled exits resonated for ............. £800 !!!!!! Unresonated was £40 cheaper i dont think i will be going back there thats for sure lol anyone recommend one close to manchester or if you read this Byzan ask bill for a quote for us next time you see him.

well thats my rant over lol

Today I was out in this freezing, sunny, dry weather routing cables for the TV tuner, AV plugs, TMC box, routing the GPS aerial, refitting the sun glasses holder and my new tax disc.

I also fixed the flickering screen on the RNS unit and the rattling volume knob.

A good day over all.

haha.
I wanted to do it at the same time as doing the items.

Not sure at the moment.
I'm thinking of a Raspberry Pi or a Android smart TV box if I can find a decent HDMI to Composite converter and possible a 4 camera control unit for a little idea I'm working on.

Wired up the TV tuner to the RNS unit.

IMAG0822_zpsea39c538.jpg

Need to get the Can Gateway (TMC unit) working and work out how or what is needed to get external DVD player displayed on the screen

Well ive just fitted the meyle control arms took me the majority of this morning as the n/s/f track rod was siezed solid, soaked it in tunap still wouldnt budge got it spinning but that was were the rubber bushing was so pulled the air chisel out and shocked the rod on the locking nut and it came free but was still tight coming off all in all everything came off with ease even the top pinch bolts !

So then i set about my poor brakes started bleeding them and the n/s/r and o/s/f was hardly pushing any fluid out even when pumping the pedal with the nipple open so got the fluid sucker on both off them and it seemed to pull the fluid through i then set the tracking for just the front wheels as the rear seams to be all in line will get it 4 wheel aligned when i tackle the rear bushes.

Now everything feels fine except theres a knocking noise if i rock the steering at a stand still it was there before i did the arms im thinking the UJ is shot on the column/rack whats it like to change the UJ as the tracking is straight but slightly to the right but if i straighten the wheel slightly it pulls slightly to the left so im thinking i need to tighten up the rack/uj before i try and track it up again ohh and the brakes seem to be alot better now !!

Nice progress Scott, is this D or E? Is there much ahssle getting it wired in?
RNS-d mate.
The e has one nob.

What cable did you use to get the DVD on the screen?
Is it a normal DVD player?

I need to have another play with mine.
I also think the satnav is a wee confused.
