I've had my stage 1 AMK S3 rolling road'ed today and I'm a bit unhappy with the results to be honest. The car has 93k on it so I appreciate its a 51 plate and getting on, but I was honestly expecting more.
It made 239.5 bhp and 275 flb torque. The power cure is very smooth as is the torque. Boost peaks 1.5 bar and holds 1.2. Air fuel peaks 14.4 drops to 13.
Mods include badger 5 turbo intake pipe with Jetex filter and REVO stage 1.
Am I over reacting thinking the REVO / B5 TIP combo would have got me more power?

I found out this week a lot about some torque control issuse with the S3 and TT and also found on some dynos which have slow accerlation rates or PID based eddy current brake control will cause the car to give a torque reduction in power when cannot be seen with VCDS logging, A higher sample rate will be needed to log the engine to see where the ecu is sheding power. In the road the car might we running a little more power then it is on the dyno.

Theres the 3 graphs I got from today to help, and a pic of my set up. I think I need a 3" down pipe and a front mount to compliment the B5 TIP

Yeah the torque is exactly as I expected and I'm pleased I'm not in the rod bending area of 300lbf. Just wish the power was at least 250 ha ha.
It keeps up neck and neck with my friends remapped megane 225, so on the road to me it's fast and drives well!

Does it feel much faster than before the remap?

Yep the difference is unreal, the in gear motorway acceleration is very much improved and when I boot it I have a huge grin in my face every time!

To be honest I'm happy, I'm just a) gutted it didn't make more power and b) paranoid something's wrong ha ha

Im thinking of getting mine done. But as im trying to sell it (ish) is it £300 wasted???

I have a stage1 map and B5 induction aswell, 270 horses!

Lol rub it in jojo! :)

Not that great IMO , I thought you would make at least 255bhp ....

Was that on shell optimax fuel?? Made a difference when I had my focus st 225 265 bhp edition dyno'd. Experimented with / without.
Either your car not running right or his dyno is out. Get your s3 scanned with vagcom.

Cheers, Sean

Always run high octane. Mine seems fondest of the shell v-power but each to own.

Yeah it always gets V power, never anything else. I work in a vW dealer and it was scanned 2 weeks ago no faults

I think maybe, if your funds allow , take it somewhere else to be dyno'd.....? Possibly tired ko4 turbo. I think westy got good results with stage one when he fitted a brand new ko4 but I might be wrong... Do some logs on the road whilst driving and post them then if there is anything wrong tuffty or bill would be able to see from logs and tell you.

Sorry not much help mate, good luck

Ok, im new to the Audi world and keep hearing about Vagcom.
Is it worth me finding somewhere to plug mine in to sell if it all running as it should?

To carry out logs do I just download vcds lite from Ross tech and buy a £6.50 lead off eBay? Is it simple?
Keen to try to log some data to try and suss this one out

Simply, yes it is that easy. However you will have limited functions and eBay cables can cause a whole host of problems. If your going to keep a VAG car buy the VCDS system properly. After that you can do anything ;-)

lead ordered, will download vcds lite to my lap top and go out to do some logs next week.

Anyone know which measuring block numbers would be best to log?

there's 2 ways you can look at this,

cry, moan and ***** about it and go into a mental state of this is not right, through more money at your car etc

<or accept that your car was run from a different dyno to others - go and do a 4th gear pull from 62-124 (or the limiter, unsure of gearing on the s3) mph and time it, this is a far better approach to comparing cars IMO

not quite sure, why as car nuts we chase peak power bhp, i think a fairer figure to chase would be how much bhp is available from a certain rpm, let's say your car makes 200bhp+ from 5,000 rpm and peaks at 240, that's better than someones who makes 200+ from 6,000 rpm that peaks at 260

Im not crying about it, Im just interested to find out if somethigs up with the car.

Revo are renouned for being quite high power, and I was supprised at the power output my car had.

I have the vag come lead coming tomorrw ao I will do some logs and if everythig is fine, Im more than happy to accept that thats just what the cars running.

What measuring blocks are best to log ?

Wouldn't really get too hooked up on RR run figures, they are only good for pub talk from my experience. I have had my car RR'd on a minimum of five different rollers over a 10 year period, and I have powerplots for between 240-270bhp, so does that mean my car was on an off day when it made 240? No not really, considering it was exactly the same spec/setting when it made most of these figures, the 270 is with the B5 3" intake installed with the exact same map I've had all these years!

The only real comparison is to have it RR'd with a group of similar cars on the same day in similar conditions, then you can gauge if the RR is an optimistic one or a low reading one.

Sounds like it's healthy and going well. All that really matter is it's putting a smile on your face. Forget the numbers!

reminds me of the old Ajec Dyno day... where most S3's made those power levels...
DD rollers for you.. meh!

Mate don't be down! I had the same feeling when my car was dyno'd at 251bhp and 270lb ft torque. I was expecting abit more power but those figures didn't seem right.. I was so upset but then you realise that the car is still quick! Mines do e 172k on its original turbo and my actuator is quite weak so putting them into the equation it's not that bad! And I had a play with a remapped ST and it couldn't do anythin so I was happy! For me, I plan to get a new actuator, DP and relentless cat to ease flow more. With more flow in, it's gotta come out so try a downpipe? If the car makes you grin then don't worry at all!

gops

Yeah the car does driver well and the difference since the map is night and day. It is literally neck and neck with my friends remapped 57 plate megane 225.
Yeah Im saving for an exhaust at the moment as I hear the downpipe makes a difference, I also want a bit more of a meatyer sound from the car as well.
Exhaust intercooler rods and stage 2 required :) ha ha

dude - you are comparing dyno numbers to cars run on different days, with different air pressure and air temps as well as different dynos !!!

did you get a before and after run ?

Well the cars been rolling roaded again at the same place as last time.
I'm happy to report that the car is sorted!
Many split pipes replaced, a full service and a relentless 3" downpipe later and she ran 262 bhp today :)
just goes to prove how vital it is to check and replace split pipes. All of the pipes under my Inlet manifold were split, they have now all been replaced with the forge and oem items.
roll on front mount and stage 2 :)

smoke test FTW...

I may have been saying this a lot lately on forums and FB

so so very common for these 'old' motors to leak like a proverbial seive

What a smoke test is seems fairly obvious but how do you carry one out bill ?
Baz

Do I carry out smoke test?

yep, daily.. every remap car starts with a smoke test... and often Stops there..
many cars leak, and without them being fixed, no mappy, and engage fixing mode instead

invaluable tool my smoke tester

many many many many MANY customer come in saying their cars are driving fine, they "checked" their pipes for leaks as they read its an issue often, and when I attach my smoke tester to the MAF and it blows copious amounts of smoke out of split pipes, they are stunned.. Visual checking pipes is not going to find the leaks peeps.. Smoke test reveals them. I remain surprised how few garages invest in this kit. Saves shed load of wasted time. Finds leaks efficiently and quickly.
