Two Bucket wash method - Results

I thought I'd post up some results after trying the "two bucket wash" method. I'm new to detailing, I've always enjoyed cleaning my cars and keeping them looking as good as possible. It is only recently that I've started getting into proper detailing though. It's early stages where I'm considering what to buy but the instant changes I made was the two bucket wash.

I wasn't too sure quite how effective it would be and how much grit would be picked up so when I emptied the buckets I decided to catch what was left and I took a picture.

This is what was left in my "wash" bucket, the water was a lot cleaner after washing I noticed, it's usually black but this time you could see through it.

This was what was left in my "rinse" bucket. The water was filthy and I was surprised how much grit was actually left in it!

This was just one wash... I was surprised by the results so for anyone who thinks Two bucket washing is pointless... It's really not! Now I dread to think of those people who chuck the last bit of water over their car as they've finished washing it!!!

Thats something I've never seen,a good reason why the two bucket method is the best

yep, 2 buckets are the way forward!
washed mine today (no pics) and it has not been done for 3 weeks, 1 of those was parked up in airport long stay parking! and the car was minging!
my rinse bucket was filthy after 2 sides!
so give it an extra long wash!
i like it when you find grit in the bottom of the bucket! years ago i would have flung this over my car and probably rubbed it all in with a yellow sponge and fairy liquid! followed by a rub all over with a filthy chamois creating even more scratches!!
how times have changed for the better! micro fibre mitts, 2 buckets and micro fibre towels FTW!

Worst story I heard was a neighbour who had a Jag cleaned his car with one of those little sponges women do the dishes with,and when it come to a stubborn bit he uses the green scothbrite bit on it

Get a grit guard it keeps the grit in the bottom of the bucket.

I've been using two old mop buckets since I got the Audi in May..

maybe it's time I got serious & bought two proper wash buckets and a guard - anyone got any preferences for guards?

i dont use grit guards!, just use big buckets and rinse lots! wilkinson buckets @ £1 for a 12litre x 2

I'm way to lazy to look for parking anywhere near the hardware shop, it's all double yellow lines these days! The local Halfrauds is in a retail park, so I'll pay the extra couple o' quid for the convenience. lol

I've got one mop bucket and one black bucket, that way I know which bucket is which and it's easy visually to know. I'm going to order some grit guards soon enough, for now I'm just dunking the mits at the top of the bucket

I've used the 2 bucket method for a while now and it's amamzing how much dirt gathers in the rinse bucket

Its exactly what it says on the tin you hand wash using two buckets of water one with your car shampoo in the other with just plain old water (i prefer cold) you then wash a section using your lambs wool mitten or micro fibre sponge then rinse it off and give it a squeeze in the plain water and repeat until your car is gleaming
If necessary then you should clay the car then polish for a shine then wax for protection
what you use for each stage is a personal thing imo its also governed by your wallet!

Then there's the waxes!!!! I can see juicy Jen making a bit of Christmas cash from this thread. It's all good fun though and more people looking after their cars properly is always good news.

Use one bucket for left hand side,and the other for the other side.

Saves carrying it around.

Maybe you should use 4 one for each side and one for the front and one for the back the four rince buckets as well :icon_thumright:

haven't got as far as the clay bar & machine polish yet, but there's aways next spring.

Clay bar is brill go for the Bilt hamber you see stuff on it you'd never see just looking at the car and afterwards the paint work feels like silk

As someone who has walked the road and has all the gear now but no time to use it, I'm beginning to think I'll just sell it all and stick to the 2 BM and waxing with an annual trip to a local detailer. I do love working on the car, I just don't have the time.

I've just bought the following ;

Lambswool Mitt
Snow Foam Lance & Snow foam
Shampoo for the car
Clay bar kit and lube
Chemical Boys sealant
Speed Polish

Admittedly it is just the start of me detailing so it will do for now, but give it time and I'm sure I'll be machine polishing and all sorts! JD got it to me in less than 24 hours from ordering with free drying towel! Spot on :icon_thumright:

The Bilt Hamber products can sometimes be touch on first time clayers so I always recommend using a fine poly clay and progress on from there

I'm one of the lucky ones, I have a friend who owns a spray shop, so it has a detailing bay... As long as I buy my own stuff I get to use it when the place is closed

Er, no.Thats the one bucket per side method.Or the albanian sand wash.Not recommended.
