Hi

Since 2~2 and half weeks ago my Audi A3's MPG has been dropped to 34~36 from 42~45, already scanned the car twice but nothing could be found!?! Anyone has any idea what this could cause this happened?!

I was very please with my Audi's MPG still 2~3 weeks ago but since then the cart started to kick off the MPG down by 2~3 MPG every few days, now the MPG has stopped dropping to 34, no matter how smooth or bad I drive, nor how low or high rev I drive... keeps showing between 34 to max 37 if I'm lucky!

I used to spent 15~20 on fuel/week but since this has happened I'm spending more than 30/week?!

The guy at garage reckoned it could be water or fuel pump, he quoted 160 which I assumed is a lot and though better to ask you guys first...!

The first gear is literally very slow, even if I do high revs (3000/4000 rpm), this tend to happen about 2 months ago, I took it to garage and no error could be found, week later became worst where I had to do about 5000/6000 rpm upon hills! Rescanned but nothing could be found again! No error or anything, a week later was absolutely fine and back to normal, but then same story till today, now the MPG has even been added to the case and don't have any clue on what shall I do!

Since 2~3 months ago I've roughly spent more £500 and still nothing!
Anybody suggests anything!

Shall I sell the car and what...? I'm totally happy with the car, it just the lack of power on 1st-2nd gear and MPG, otherwise very clean car and totally been happy with it so far!

Please get back to me ASAP!
Cheers

Also I was thinking to go for a GOLF MK5 GTI, reg 2006/2007? Anybody reckons GTI over any other car if I had to sell my Audi!
I don't want to buy an Audi as I've alredy had enoguh of it... wanna try somethin else!

I'm more concerned about GTIs maintenance costs as opposed to Golf GT Sport with same reg 2006/2007?

Cheers

Thanks

So what is it that you want to do then???

You first ask if anyone has any idea what's wrong with your car but then you ask whether a MK5 Golf is good coz you want to sell your car!

What year is your A3 ? What fuel do you normally use? Have you changed fuel recently? When was the last service? When is the cambelt due?

All those things might help in establishing the cause of your problem. FWIW I have 2.0 FSi and had almost identical issues but mine showed error codes all to do with cambelt. Had the belt done and it's been like a rocket since, 42mpg average :)

Sounds strange, mine usually averages around 32-37 if that makes it any better. Very very rarely above 40mpg.

When did you last have full service inc all filters, fluids etc?

Sorry for the confusion, ignore the GTI!

Reg 2004, 73k mileage, unleaded @ Esso, last service about 2k mile ago, it has FSH with Audi!

I've already asked the garage whether it has to do with the cambelt or not but they said the possibility is 5% as FSI engines use chain which should easily last up to 100k ~ 120k...

Thanks

The chain might need adjustment. Did you try running it on Shell V-Power? I run mine on V-Power as it does make a difference. Also might be worth looking at cleaning your injectors?

Yes everything been replaced, filters etc.

Mine is 1.6 and used to easily give me around 43~47 MPG combined! On motorway even more as it's a six speed gearbox and think it's more economical as opposed to special edition which has the same spec!
Friend of mine has special edition and he gets roughly 34~36 MPG!

It can't be the cambelt coz the mileage is not even 80k and always driven smoothly, no stupid stuff! Member of family was the 1st owner so I'm sure the mileage is 100% genuine!

Cheers

Sorry guys I forgot to mention that shifting gears isn't as smooth as before, sometimes having problem shifting from 2nd to 3rd!
