Some Help from Veteran B7 Owners

Hi guys

New to the forum and the world of Audi - bought a B7 S4 this year and enjoying it massively. Needless to say the 4.2l V8 is a pain to feed but luckily I don't commute with the car.

2 questions that you might be able to help with given I am new to the UK as well -

# Went to the dealer and wanted to have my brakes replaced, but then the space between calipers and alloys was too tight given the new brake discs. Believe that the alloys were not OEMs.
Is there any solution you see for it or can you recommend a good alloys vendor that can provide me with alloys (used OEM or new non-OEM)?

# Any good iPod player solutions out there that you would recommend? Have an iPod cable sticking from my glove compartment but would like an easier / clearner solution.

Welcome, sounds like you have a Thirsty beast there. How much you getting on a full tank and cost to fill??

With regards to the space between callipers and alloys they are usaully pretty close as the brakes are big (like mine V6 3.0 TDI)
Depends on what alloys you have??

Try spacers if you want a gap say (5mil)

With regards to playing loads of tracks and Ipod solution, go MP3 SD Card get a RSNE sat nav as they have MP3 slots built in.

200-250 miles depending on driving style (and how much time spent outside of London...), but haven't done a pure highway run yet. Hoping to do so this year and happy to update.

Space is limited correct - when my Audi dealer wanted to replace the discs the calipers would no longer fit into the non-OEM alloys - that's why my question. Don't think the dealer will use spacers - they would have proposed that solution?

On MP3 - I have a builtin Audi solution - but forgot the SD cards so might just go for that!

Now just need a new iPhone 5 cradle...

+1 for spacers. Minimum of ET40 required for the bigger brakes (S4, RS4 & 3.0tdi) and a lot of aftermrket wheels only have ET35. 10mm spacers also make the wheels sit nicer in thw arches. 15mm also works well. Personal preferance really...

Also, on the ipod front, you can have a dension unit: iPod Car | iPod car Adapters | iPhone Car Kit | iPhone Car Adapter | Hands Free Car Kits - Dension Various different options

Or Xcarlinx: AUDI :: XCarLink where BT is also an option. You can mod the ashtray to house a dock and the unit.

If you dont want to change your OEM headunit...

Thanks - I've heard of spacers - but assume that Audi Garages won't put them in for me when they replace the brake disc? I'll go otherwise for aftermarket wheels with ET40.

Not sure if Audi would install them or not? It's not an audi part so probably not, might be down to the discression on the mechanic you speak to...

You could fit spacers yourself, or get a local garage to do it for minimal cost before you have the brakes done. Far cheaper than getting new wheels

OK got it - will have to go to local garage once to find out what they can do. I can imagine that the Audi tech is not allowed to mount spacers but he can work with spacers already attached - liability is therefore not his.

Do you mean the alloys / wheels? Audi told me they could not fit new brake discs as the alloys would touch the calipers (somehow the discs I have now are slightly worn down)

Think mine are ET43 and run very close aswel. So much so i thought something was wrong once
