Fuel pump failure

Well came out of morrisons tonight and the car started and then cut out straight away called my mate who is a VW tech and he checked the wiring and relay, all ok. The pump it seems has just had it!
The pump has been steadily getting louder and louder over the last week,it's been buzzing like when it first primes constantly as I've been driving.
im quite lucky as I work in a VW dealer with TPS next door so hopefully I can have the part in by thursday latest.

I love my S3 but these things are sent to try us!

Its just one of them things, these cars are getting old now, and electrical items fail, atleast you work in a place you can get it all sorted. Let us know how you get on mate, You'll be back in the S3 before you know it!

Yeah I know, its a 51 late so shes getting on now so I fully expect little problems.

I suspect my recently revo remap has shall we say "highlighted" an old part that was getting tired ha ha

Most people who upgrade there fuel pump use second hand ones. I've alo see the walbro ones on eBay but how much are they from the stealers?just curious as I'm sure we will all need to replace ours if we haven't already.

I've notice when my tank is less than half full I have to give the pump a little more time to prime before I start it.

I think mine might on borrowed time.

What's with the Walbro pumps? Do they go inline?
or do you just take out the old one from the tank and replace the motor with something like this Fuel pump Audi A3, TT, 1.8T | eBay or NEW AUDI S3 S4 RS4 RS6 RS8 UPRATED HIGH FLOW FUEL PUMP | eBay ?

Are there any guide on doing this?

Been there, done this. Get an OEM one from TPS/dealer etc. Don't get one from GSF/ECP etc unless you are guaranteed to get the full pump harness as well as the pump itself. Changing the whole harness is a relatively simple job...as long as you like the smell of petrol!

The remaps help kill the old pumps off.

It's a pretty stinky job to do, you'll be high as a kite on petrol fumes! Rear bench seat out, peel carpet back, then it's a pretty simple task of undoing the bolts fixing the pump into the tank and swapping the pump.

A pump from VW cost me £220+VAT

I didn't and not heard that mentioned before. You just drop it in and the float is on an arm which is the length specifically for that size tank.

Ah ok - I just assumed that you'd need to do something with VCDS to make sure the fuel gauge showed the correct amount of fuel.

I know there are some blocks in VCDS that can be fiddles but I've done 2 of these on S3s now and it's been fine both times.

Ditto, just make sure you don't get the arm caught in all the cables/hoses.
